If you want to change your browser options on your 8940 to be a able to get free WAP internet here is the access code:

press

##BROWSER then press the "end call button"

From there you can change your default homepage, Gateway address and port settings.

With a lot of hard work searching the web you will eventually find a working free WAP gateway address and port. I would recomnend changing your homepage to something other than the Verizon homepage as they want you to pay for them a monthly fee to surf the internet. You can set up your own WAP homepage at www.tagtag.com or use google
http:/www.google.com/xhtml

Remember the internet is only free during your hours of free calls (evenings and weekends) Using the internet during reg...

Can you explain in detail what exactly to change to get the free web. What do you change the Uplink numbers to? What's the difference between the 3 uplinks? What do you use for the host names, port #, auth ID, and auth PW?
By the way, how did you discover this? Great find! Any other secret menus?
I'm sure we'd all like to know a workaround to get pics/vids to/from the SD card.
Thanks in advance.

I found the browser code by reading forums on older Audiovox phones. I should post a short caveat - I am still using my 2 months free V-Cast so I haven't made any changes to my phone yet. I am not quite sure of the difference between the three up-links. Presumably if your browser can't connect at one up-link then it will move on to the next and try that.

Typically when you find a free WAP gateway address on the internet it will have a port number listed with it. You need a combination of both these numbers to access the web. I don't want to list any WAP IP addresses here as then they get over-used and probably shut down. For those that want to find them on the WEB they are out there. A lot of the posted address you will find are old and ...

I tried to connect to wap.google.com and could not with any 8080 port. Then I succeeded with a couple of different 80 ports . However , only the search list would come up and after that I could not go to any site. I just got a 404 server not found error. I did not use two ports together ie. 80 and 8080 with any success although i did not try many pairs . I wonder 80 first then 8080 and what port to associate with the host name? you said "You need a combination of both these numbers to access the web." please advise.

many thanks

Once again, I haven't set up free WAP on my 8940 yet as I am still using my free 2 months vcast. I have set up free WAP on my wifes LG-VX-4500 and it worked great. The below tread from Howard's Forum suggests that there may be difficulties in setting up free WAP on Audiovox phones. I am assuming I can make it work but until I give it a try it on my Audiovox 8940 I can't claim 100% certainty.

Are you saying you can access free web to your laptop, via your cell phone? I'm a newbie to this, am I supposed to use the usb cable for this? What does WAP stand for? If this is true, it's hot news.
