Carrier?
Problem with a phone like this is that it's going to be hellishly expensive - the previous models don't seem to ever have been released in the USA..
I'm thinking Cingular maybe. AWS might carry this phone but who knows if they'll be around when the phone comes out 😛

Thats not true, I have a Nokia 9290, that I purchsed here in America. I have used it with TMobile for years now.
Over all the phone is good, but it doesn't have near as many bells and whistles as this new phone.

When is it coming out and do you think the software will support movie trailors. Also is verizon getting the phone or just tmobile. I been with tmobile 4 yrs. and really dont want to sign another contract, but if they give me an upgrade price it will be worth it.

I highly highly doubt verizon gets this phone. This is a GSM | GPRS | EDGE phone so you're looking at Cingular (ATTWS is now assimilated), & Tmobile. Verizon & Sprint are still stuck in the 80s on their digital network. They are attempting to built out a new networks based on CDMA2000 which quite frankly only 2 other countries are going to use that technology. So you can forget about taking your verizon phone with you anywhere outside of the USA...wait, that's just like how it is now. The peak network speed of CDMA2000 is literally 1/2 the speed of WCDMA which is what the rest of the world is going to use. (WCDMA is on the horizon after GSM / GPRS). AT&T Wireless built out WCDMA networks AKA UMTS in Seattle, San Francisco, San Diego, ...

chevas, a question: currently there are quad-band phones with 1900, 1800, 900 and 850. The major advantage they advertize is that it works globally ... which is suitable for me since i travel outside u.s.
this u.s nokia 9300 is tri-band, which implies its going to work on fewer networks globally (or maybe even severly limited due to not having 900). could you throw light on this aspect.
and also compared to navigator 9500, apart from video camera, does anything (networking or otherwise lack in this ... like 802.11b).

ok, what i'v found is: 2 us companies are notable: T-Mobile or ATT (Cingular). T-Mobile has GSM 1900 only, while ATT has both, 1900 + 850 frequency (which some say gives you better penetration, though an older band)
Now, europe and rest of world, is on 900 (majority) and 1800 (the newest one).
In essence, really a person needs quad-band phone, but if your in US, having a phone that has BOTH 1900 and 850 is pretty imp. to me (gives you peace of mind, heh). Nokia USA model doesn't come with 900 unfortunately, but Nokia is still a phone a worth ... so for that loss, I'm gonna use the "free ... haha" Blackberry 7100t, (quadband) i just ordered ... which actually isn't bad too.

Okay I'm pretty new to this so a little help if you please. Where would you get a phone like the 9290. I have not seen anything even remotely close to it ever offered from the carriers? Also, if you get such a phone as the 9300 or 9500 from someplace other than the carriers, how do you get them to activate the phone and provide all the data serevices they offer to such a phone. Thanks for any help.
