Activating an Unlocked TMobile Blackberry 7100T on Cingular?

I called Cingular today and asked them if I had my own device and I wanted to establish new service, would I be obligated to sign a two-year agreement and they said, "no". Having said, typically one would activate a Cingular branded device by taking it into the retail store and they would not have any issues, right?

However, I would like to establish new Cingular service AND activate an unlocked TMobile Blackberry 7100T on their network. Are they going to allow me to do this in the retail store? Also, I will need a Cingular SIM card. Will they provide that when I activate the device? My main issue is that I don't wish to be locked into a two-year agreement or I would just go ahead and purchase the newly released Blackberry 7100g fo...

I am in exactly the same boat as you Scott. I have no SIM card and want to start up a new unlocked 7100t on cingular (I don't have it yet), so I'm wondering how I get the sim card if the unlocked version doesn't come with one.

You should be able to just go into the store and get a SIM card and activate the phone right then and there. Yet, the reps, will probably "try" to talk you into signing a contract. I've personally seen people come in with their own unlocked phones and set up service with no problem (DC Metro area Cingular stores).

By the way, where did you get an unlocked 7100t? I was looking for an unlocked 7105t because it already has IM already on the phone, whereas the 7100g doesn't have it included on the phone.

They should allow you to do that. Just go to a cingular store and tell them you want to purchase a sim card (~ $1😎 and activate your own phone. If they refuse then go to another store, buy the sim card and don't tell them about the 7100t. Then you can call the 1-866 nubmer, apply over the phone, give all the details and activate the service.

The sim card is actually $25 dollars. If you sign up for a voice plan that has mobile to mobile you will have to sign a one year service agreement. If the phone is unlocked it still might not work for data as it has the t-mobile software, not sure if this will cause a problem for the data. example, i know that a moto v600 from t-mobile won't work with Cingular data b/c the wap settings will be different.

Yet, all you have to do is get the data settings from Cingular. The data settings for Cingular are posted on the Howard Forums under the CIngular tab.

Two months after I bought my 7100t I started working in an area with *no* T-Mobile service. I told them I was going overseas and needed to use the phone over there. They sent me the unlock code for my BB, but I'm still having problems getting the thing unlocked.

When I called Cingular, they let me sign a year contract, and sent their SIM card for free. They told me not to cancel T-Mobile until I get the card and activate it - then it would shut off service with T-mobile.

A rep with T-Mobile told me that since I moved to an area where there was no service, I could get out of my contract without penalties.

I'm holding my breath....
