EV-DO
There is a lot of questions about these phones and whether or not they are EV-DO capable. Sprint is currently making EV-DO a high priority, however they want to launch the whole network at the same time. That takes time and all the phones due to be released in the first half of this year for Sprint will NOT be EV-DO capable. The only network that will launch a phone with this technology in the first half is Verizon. The merger also slows down the launch of the faster technology, know that Sprint prides itself on its technology leaps and it won't be too much longer.

Just an added note: The Samsung A800 is written as a EV-DO phone but no specific launch has been noted.

Doesn't Sprint plan on deploying EV-DO this year? Are they going to deploy in certain markets and cities (like Verizon) or do they plan on deploying EV-DO on their entire network by end of 2005? These are questions I need answers to before I go on to purchase a new phone. I really want the MM-5600 but am unsure because it is not EV-DO capable and if Sprint does plan on deploying EV-DO to its entire network by end of 2005 then it seems like it would be a wiser choice to wait for a Sanyo EV-DO phone to be released. My 18 months are up at the end of 2005. If Sprint is only going to do major cities in certain markets and does not plan on full blown EV-DO by 2005 ends then I would rather get the 5600 and wait another year or so before I get an EV...

Sprint will probably deploy EVDO by the end of this year. As always Sprint prides itself by when releasing new technology they do it nationwide with the flip of a switch. So when it comes it will be everywhere! Personally I can tell you that I think that it is stupid to wait for a year for a new phone. I can see a few months but to bypass a new phone for something that will come out later is dumb. Sprint will always be rolling out new technology as well as cooler new phones. What you need to do is pick out a phone that you like that you want to keep for a while and then buy it. When the next better phone comes out if you think it is worth it then get it. I have the Sanyo 5500 and did not get the 7400 because it didn't have the megapix...

True because I got the 5500 in February of last year and I when I heard about the 7400 I really liked the features except I didn't think it was worth upgrading especially when I heard about the features of the 5600 and how it was supposed to be coming out shortly after the 7400. I like the look of the 7400 better than the look of the 5600 but the features of the 5600 are awesome and I really want it to get it. I guess I can always just get an EV-DO phone later or if it is indeed true that Sprint will go on to follow EV-DV then I might be better of waiting for EV-DV. I will be content with the 5600 in the meantime cause it has everything I want and need except bluetooth and EV-DO. Do you really think Sprint will go on to EV-DV? Would that be ...
