I just got the phone UPS today. I was very excited. Here are the pros the cons and the dealbreaker that is making me return the phone:
Pros:
-Great screen
-cool voice dialing features (no training)
-ringer can be set to say "call from (computer voice reads name from phonebook)"
-Best speaker, I've ever heard on a phone (when playing music)
-Intuitive menus
-Super quick web browsing
Cons:
-It's kinda big
-It's kinda expensive
Dealbreaker:
-No MP3 Ringers! This phone CAN NOT do MP3 ringers at all!
At first I thought that I was overlooking something. I tried downloading MP3 files from differant sites that I know my friends with Cingular use on a regular basis to get their MP3 ringtones. Every time the phone would sa...

Wow, that really sucks a$$. I was strongly considering buying this phone within a week or so, but was waiting for some more feedback from people like you. I can live with the mediocre camera, I can't believe that a simple task like using an mp3 from the SD card for a ringtone isn't supported. That's ridiculous. The screensaver thing isn't really an issue for me because those just use up the battery anyway and don't really provide much benefit. But I agree with you, the lack of mp3 ringtones is a deal breaker, unless there is a firmware update or something that allows the easy transfer of mp3's for ringtones.
...
It is supposed to support MP3 ringtones. I called Sanyo|Fisher to ask about this but they arent open on the weekends. I left a message and they should call me back monday. Hope it supposrts MP3's ringers if it doens't im gonna get it anyways. AAC ringtones sound really good and u can make them with ur computer. No paying for ringtones.
...
Why dont you just go to myphonefiles.com? They have software that allows to to convert any audio file to a "purevoice" (I think that's what it's called) which is some kinda CDMA format that cell phones easily read (and I think they use less space than MP3 format).
...
Purevoice files are QCP files. They are compatable with most Sanyo phones, including my current VM4500, but not with the 5600. Also, QCP files have pretty poor sound quality. This phone supports AAC format instead of QCP, but it kind of difficult to covert to AAC.
...
I dunno 😕 I went to the same sites I go to for my old 5500 (old?) and transferred the same Dead Ringers (Voice Ringers) I originally transferred to the 5500 along with some new ones to the 5600 and they all work. When I preview them on the sites they launch a qcp player to review them.
...the thing is, the sites didn't have the 5600 listed as a phone option so I've been transferring ringers as a 5500 and they still work.
I would like to have Mp3/Ringer capability but I'll buy a new phone in 8-10 months anyway so this'll do for now.

Listen I took the libery to post instructions on how to make your own MP4/AAC and MP3 ringtones on my homepage. All the software that is needed is free to use and download. All the links to everything you need is provided.
Go here: http://www.geocities.com/cabankevin@sbcglobal .net/ringtones.html
Enjoy and happy ringtone making. 🙂

Can't you just use i-tunes and import your mp3's as AAC files?
...
I haven't really tried it but I guess it would be possible the only problem I would see is finding a program that will allow you to crop an AAC file. If you know of one that can then you are all good.

Kev, my friend tried usin your directions for his phone, he has the 7400...and he said his phone told him "No plug-in present to open file download?" do you know what he should do to get it to work, or did he jus mess somethin up?
...
QCP files are compatible with the MM-5600. 3GUPLOAD does have the 5600 in its phones list and all files work. mbuzzy can be used to transfer correct size pictures if phone is set to Toshiba VM-4050.
...
Ill be pretty pissed if the 5600 does not read QCP files. I already bought a membership on myphonefiles.com just for that reason. I want to be able to upload clips from my CD's and convert wav files from movies or tv shows etc and use them as ringers. Basically I thought I would be able to take ANY audio clip and convert it to a ringer using that website. I did read the other posts on this thread and one guy said the 5600 DOES support QCP and another provided a link where conversions can be done. I hope one of them are correct.
...
We both were correct. The 5600 DOES support QCP and the guy who posted the conversion process....AWESOME! I missed lunch because I was having so much fun making Voice Ringers! 🤣

I just want to know if change your mind about returning the phone, mightywhitee cause i know ever since i first came to this forum you was always bigging up this phone and now u want to return it. That is really starting to make me think negative thoughts about the phone.

the phone isn't worth the price, really.
it was just over-hyped by people and made to seem like the "be all, end all" of camera phones. just wait till something better comes out if you're short on cash.
...
No, I haven't changed my mind. It's strange to hear that it supports QCP though. It is not listed on the spec sheet on Sanyo's website as a supported file type and when I tried to download a QCP file to the phone, it would not work. It would say 20% done, 30%, ect, but would keep going past 100% then 200% and eventually the phone erred out and said something about the file size not matching. I guess this was probably the website I was downloading from? Has anyone successfully gotten the QCP files to work on the phone?
What mostly bothers me is that Sprint is locking the MP3 capability out. It bothered me that almost no Srint phone's have blue-tooth and the ones that do are severely crippled, and this is kind of the last straw for me...

Heh...
If you think Sprint's the only one crippling their phones do some research. MANY other carriers do this to most of their phones.
...
In my area, the two other major carriers are Verizon and Cingular. I've done quite a bit of research into their phones. Both Verizon and Cingular offer phones that do MP3 ringers. Cingular has many unrestricted bluetooth phones. Verizon, like Sprint, has only bluetooth headset capability.
...
I have both a Verizon phone and a Cingular phone (one business and one personal), and I would definately reccomend going with Cingular over Verizon. Verizon cripples most everything that Sprint has crippled, if not more. And the things that are not crippled, VZW has found a way to charge for them.
Go with Cingular, they will not cripple phone features at all.
...
Thats the biggest understatement of the Year "Cingular will not cripple their phone" Wow i work for Sprint i have to look into other carriers all the time Cingular Put out phones with features on them that you cant even use yet they say it works but it just not completly done, i know first hand, because thats something we all want in a phone right an AWSOME feature that just doesnt work man i love that in a phone. so dont be stupid and say o Cingular wont be cause unfortunately it does happen TO EVERYONE! im not trying to come down on Cingular just trying to make a point because they are a good company for the most part.
...
Well, like I said, I have both a VZW phone and a Cingular phone. My Cingular phone allows me to do everything it is advertised to do (ie. bluetooth, infrared, etc...) and my VZW phone that was supposed to have bluetooth was crippled. And now I have the VX-8000 as my VZW phone, and they have partitioned the memory on it in such a way that it prevents you from having a good number of ringtones and pictures so that you have to pay for their services (ie. pix messaging and downloading more ringers) to move the things you have without losing them. And good luck finding a VZW phone with infrared.
My Cingular phone is NOT crippled in any way at all. Cingular has just found ways to charge for ALL data functions that utilize their network. Bu...

Wow to change a MP3 clip to AAC takes about 2 minutes. If that is why you are returning the phone...I mean I make alot of DDN.COM content....I can make a ringer in 2 minutes. First I use NGWAVE to cut the mp3 to the times I want. Then I save it and open it up in Nero and select save as mp4. Change the extension to m4a and send it to my phone...2 minutes...and a custom ringer...The mp3 file and the aac should sound about the same if you use a higher bit rate....Or you can join ddn (2 dollars a month) and the service creates one for you....
...
Often times though it's a manufacturer's decision as opposed to the carrier for features on the phone. The carrier just gives a list of guidelines so phones for a carrier work similarly. As for the crippled/lack of Bluetooth capabilities, I'm actually thankful for this after hearing stories from people I know and how insecure Bluetooth is.
Unless you really want someone to be text messaging from YOUR phone without having it in their hands.
I bought my 5600 earlier in the week and I'm still in the process of adjusting back to Sanyo menus (had a Toshiba 4050 before) but I must say, this phone is fantastic. I'll be posting a User Review next week once I've had more time to tear into it. If you're thinking about getting it I'm sure you...

Well, phonescoop says that the 5600 does use mp3 ringers, but if you absolutely NEED to convert them to AAC, it's really simple. If you have iTunes, you can convert mp3's to AAC's with only one program. If you want to crop them, then you just have to download a free program like Audacity from CNET. With that you can crop the mp3 file and then convert it with iTunes. Very simple.

albert, if you did do it that way, do you know like the step by step way to do it..?
...
why return it...why not sell it to me? 😁
...
I take it back, I changed my mind after all. I still haven't gotten the return kit back from Sprint, and after looking at competitors, I found that Verizon's phones are too simalar to Sprint's and their data plans are very expensive (charge per minute) And Cingular's phones are really cool, but the service is poor. So I spent some time yesterday making a bunch of MP4 ringers and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.
...
You make it sound like you're stuck with a junky phone ;p
I like this thing so far, just need a big miniSD card now.
...
The Sanyo 5600 actually does support QCELP ringtones, as well as all current versions of CMX (MIDI and master audio), and AAC.
In order to get ringtones working on your phone, you must download them from an approves Sprint content provider. http://www.forfones.com is one of them. They have great content for this phone.

No you can just make your own Mp4/AAC ringers and upload then through sprintusers or readylink users.
