Assigning Video Ringers

you can assign video ringers from videos made BY the phone. i've tried many different settings and i can never get the phone to let me assign a home made video (converted on my computer). Does anyone know how to trick the phone into thinking that it actually made the video so that it can be assigned?

i converted it to .3g2. the videos play, just can't assign or send. anyone with suggestions? i know you can only send videos smaller than 5 megs also. what am i missing? has anyone else been able to assign the videos that they have stored on their SD card?

I hadn't tried it before, but I checked after I read your post. I only have 3 homemade videos on my phone and it didn't let me assign the longer ones (not sure how long but more then 1 minute). It did let me assign a really short one I had. The short one is only a few seconds long. I'm not sure, but unless there is something I'm not accounting for, it seems to have something to do with the length of the file.

well, i used some video editing software to cut my video down to 30 seconds (long enough for a ringer) and it STILL doesn't let me assign it. its only like 450KB. i don't understand. unless its how the phone names the files or something dumb like that.

I looked at the details on the three movies I have custom made (1 works, 2 don't). The only differances that I see are:

-File size is 30kb on the one that works 2mb and 6mb on the ones that don't.
-The one that works has no audio at all.
-The file name is much shorter on the one that works. It is only 9 charactors, compared to upwards of 20 charactors on the ones that don't.

I'm not at my home PC where I can test it, but it seems most likely that it has something to do with the file name as you suspected. (the file name that works is Superman1.3G2).

got one to work!!!!

i connected the phone to the comp and used QuickTime to open a video that the phone created. under the 'Window' drop down there is 'show movie info' then i went to 'more info'

i mimicked the properties that the file had when encoding my videoringer.
Video:
3GPP2
32 kbits/sec
15 FPS

Audio:
AAC-LC(music)
32kbps
mono
16 kHz

i then went under the advanced tab and unchecked the 'fragment movie' option. not sure what that does, but the other file didn't say anything about it.

see if you can push the limits s'more.

the whole reason for me wanting to do this is so that i can assign a bunch of video ringers and have them saved on my SD, but it still transfers them to the phone, so it really didn't solve ...
