Got my 5600 and was wondering if anybody else has this problem. When i go to upload either pics or ringers into my sd card from pc it just says transferring and it never stops. When I look into sd card on my pc it shows file is there. However if I just close windows explorer and pull out my usb connection file doesnt show up on card, HOWEVER if I shut my pc down after each individual file even though it still says file transferring it comes out ok. I dont think its normal to have to shut my pc down after each one and why does it just hang up on file transferring even though its already there. Even does this with a small 7kb picture. Thanks for any help...

You did format the card through the phone first, right?

Have you tried using the USB device manager icon in the systray? Assuming you're using Windows XP, look at the lower right corner of the screen, by the clock. When you plug in a USB device a little icon comes up that lets you manage and stop a connected USB device. The "transfering files" animation on the phone stays there until you go into the USB manager and stop the connection. Then the phone should say "please unplug USB cable."

In general, do not unplug a USB cable without first stopping the USB connection through that management menu. Although it's rare... you could definitely damage both the phone and the PC.

Hope this helps.

To use the 5600's mini-SD card with Windows 98,
you need to install the Sanyo Mass Storage Driver.
Win-XP does not need this.

Go to: http://www.sprintpcs.com/support/guides/sanyo .html
it's there under MM-5600. That should get you going.

I re-read your thread.
It looks very much like a caching problem.

Windows 98, by default, caches disk writes. So, Windows appears to have written the files, but it doesn't actually do the write until a few seconds (usually 5 seconds) later. Shutting down Windows normally will flush the cache, so you get your files on the mini-SD. Pulling the plug prematurely results in files not being transferred, or possibly, file corruption. Win-XP fixes the default because so many people were losing data.

But you can disable the write-behind caching on your PC, that should fix it for good. I think you'll go to Control Panel, System, Performance, File System, Troubleshooting.
Or you should be able to wait 15 seconds or so after writing the last fi...

I think you are my new best friend 🙂 Im playing with it now for 5 mins and no freezing my computer up. Ill post back in about 20 to let ya know for sure. Thank you so very much. Ive spent the last 2 days literally 5 hours each day and nobody had the right answer. So again thank you.
Will unchecking the cache writing feature have any adverse affects to my pc... anything that i should expect to act differently.... Thanks again

I loaded the drivers on my Win-98 PC, and disabled caching as you did. It is working fine. It has USB 1.x.

It's likely that your drivers need reloading. After booting, the first time you plug in the phone, it works fine. But if you unplug then replug, Windows sometimes gets confused as to the status of the device and gives you a prompt to load drivers. You must answer cancel, or there will often be problems. I've seen this on other USB devices too, like digital cameras, and I've seen it happen on Win-XP too. If you allowed Windows to load the drivers, you should try to uninstall, then reinstall the USB Mass Storage drivers.
If you want to do this, first plug in the phone, then go to Control Panel, System, Device Manager, Universal Serial...
