Anybody have an idea if that is the flash or the signal light underneath the external display?

That would be the service light. No flash being included on this device.

Actually, I take that back. The specs say an LED flash is included, so it must be the flash as I dont see any other lights on the front flip. Then again, it could be a dual purpose LED flash/service light.
