e815 vs samsung a950???

I have posted this on the a950 site, but thought maybe I'd get some different views here.

I have posted before, but now find myself really torn between the two phones now that I've seen them both at the Verizon dealer.

I need to make a decision QUICK! I have a 6100 that is driving me crazy with dropped calls and that darn "beeping" if the volume is turned down.

I cannot decide which I like better . I like the E815 because I like Motorola phones. I am very nervous about that echo problem though. Also worried about battery life as I know that it will keep switching back and forth from EV to 1x in my area (my sister has that phone and it does that here). The A950 is nice, but I've never owned a Samsung and am worried it too, ...

I currently have the E815 and I am on my 2nd phone. I do not use the speakerphone so the echo problem does not effect me. The Poor call quality when talking normally on the phone KILLS me. It sounds like you are talking into a tin can. I had a Samsung A500 phone with sprint and loved it. Great call quality but needed Verizon because I moved to DC.
I plan on switching over to the A950 because of the reports of better call quality.
The E815 is a good phone if you use BT all the time and have the EVDO capability. But the regular use of the phone is, in my opinion, terrible.
Hope this helps.

Just fyi - I don't have the slightest idea why "erik6408" says/is having problems with his call quality, but he's one of the very few people who has complained about it. Most people (myself included) think the call quality is absolutely fantastic. The phone, like most phones, has some issues - the vibrate is weak, the alarm clock doesn't go off if you get a text message, there's the echo problem that some people run into and some people don't (but it only affects the speakerphone or bluetooth, it doesn't affect a normal call).

But call quality with a normal call is fantastic.

It is easy to see that there is a problem with the call quality by looking at the amount of people complaining about the echo and the fact that you hear yourself while you are talking using no speaker phone just talking into the phone regularly. I thought I was the only one that was complaining about this problem but after doing some research it is very easy to see that many people have had better call quality on other phones. I too wish Motorola would do something about this issue so I didn't have to change out my phone for the 3rd time. I think many people that are used to hearing poor quality phones do not know there is better quality available.

I read this forum and howard forums every day, and no, there aren't a lot of people complaining about an echo when talking into the phone normally.

I can tell you that I tried 3 of these phones (they sent me two extra's before realizing that my phone wasn't ringing because either something on their end was wrong, or it was because my old phone still had my phone number in it), and I *never* had a problem with an echo while using the handset normally.

Like I said, it is not an echo. It is poor sound quality. It sounds like your are talking into a tin can not a cave. Im glad that you got your phone resolved but coming from an excellent sound quality to a poor call quality phone was very disappointing. That is good to hear that Verizon is fixing your problem.

I was inches away from buying the e815. However, I couldn't bring myself to purchase it because if you get a text message over night and have the alarm set to wake you up in the morning it won't go off. A lot of people get text messages after they fall asleep and it boggles my mind that A) more people haven't been complaining about it on this forum and B) Motorola hasn't fixed it.

Also, now that the the a950, and 9800 are out, this decision should be a no brainer. With the upgrade on the vx8100 as well, I can't see how one would choose the e815

I can't see why you think the alarm clock issue is such an *enormous* deal - most of us don't even use the alarm clock on our phones. So if you don't use the alarm clock, then it *really* doesn't matter, does it?

Someone would buy the e815 because it has great sound quality, great sound volume, and great reception (many people have said noticably better reception than the 8100). That's why.

If this is good sound quality I would hate to hear what poor sound quality sounds like.

The reception was not as good for sure on the 950. I carried my wifes motorola around with me at the same time and hers always had 2 bars better in weak areas. I dropped calls on the 950 where I shouldn't have. I missed calls due to the weak reception. I have had Absolutely no problem with the 815 in the last couple weeks.

sound quality to me was about the same. I don't have an echo now with my 815 which I think has been great!!!!

Menus on the moto are very customizable!!!! (very cool) on the samsung NO CUSOMIZING!!!! SUCKSSSSS!!!! ( you can customize 1 button - useless) .

The camera phone on the samsung is better. Moto is fine for a phone.

Speakers on samsung are better. I like the 2 speakers on the top on both sides. and I ...
