What is the best way to transfer personal music collection onto my VX8100?
I just got the VX8100 and was considering buying a 2Gig miniSD card to store my personal music collection. Can this be done through a card reader or must I use the VZW music package with the USB cable. Also, is there anyway I can make ringtones from the music I put on the phone? Thanks if anyone can help me out.

Well, there are several ways. If you re-activate the MP3 player, then you can put all your MP3's into the MY_MUSIC folder on the card, and yes you need a reader to do this. If your using the VCAST MUSIC, then you can either convert all your MP3's into WMA's then put them onto the MY_MUSIC folder on your card (again you need a reader to do this) or you can put your MP3's into Windows Media Player 10, which will automatically convert them to WMA's then you can sync them to your phone using the cable that comes with the Music Essentials kit.

awesome thanks man. I just got Bitpim...where do I go from there as far as putting the music I put in there onto the phone...do I need the Music Essential Kit cable or is a card reader fine? Because I own a card reader but am wondering if it would be worth it to just go for the Music Essential Kit.

I'm not sure about using the card reader and pulling off the ringtones from the memory card. I did have success with the USB cable I got from the Music Essentials kit. I got impatient and bought it. You can find it online on Amazon or something for less than half the price of the Music Essentials kit. As long as it comes with the USB driver on a CD with the cable. Using Bitpim, on the top left of the screen the two icons get from phone and send to phone. Make your ringtones and then send away.

this is a related question as you mentioned using a a Bluetooth USB adapter. Does this mean I can use bluetooth on a vx8100 to interchange all phne dat, and connect a pda. If this is so this would be awesome. 😳 Thanks.

it's been a long time since i played with the vx8100, but i don't remember it having the necessary bluetooth profiles to exchange contacts / appointments / files with a computer. your best bet for music is still copying it onto the card with a card reader. see our sync article for options on keeping your contacts up to date:
