6101 PC synch question
I really want to be able to synch it to my PC in order to copy names, numbers, notes, etc. and most importantly - install ringtones (I can adjust the ringtone size/format with Audacity and like software), and install wallpaper.
Do I use the Nokia PC suite 6.05, or are there better 3rd party programs available for this. I do not want to use IR transfer and would prefer using data cable. Which cable is for the 6101??
Anyone with experience doing this with the 6101? How big of a hassle to install ringers?
This phone looks like what I want. I'm seeing prices in the $210 - $225 range and that's OK.
I have the Nokia PC suite 6.6 and find no problem downloading ringtones.
That's kinda what I thought. I've also read some place to beware of the cheap Asian copies of the CA-42 cable that you see on ebay and other places. They reportedly don't make a good connection to Nokia's software for some reason. I know that cellphoneshop.net (for example) sells that cable for $11.00 - as opposed to Nokia's $50 price tag! Might be worth a shot tho, because if it doesn't work I'm only out a couple of bucks! But I probably should just bite the bullet and get a "real" one and play it safe!
Have you tried doing an Irda connection? I can find Irda dongles from good suppliers for 15 - 25 bucks. Might be nice not have cords too - but I don't know if that connection can handle a lot of data like wallpape...

I'm not a big fan of Bluetooth for sure. It has some very flawed security problems and a Bluetooth exposed cell phone can be "owned" pretty easily! Not that the hacker can do much with it other than scarf your address book and make stupid erroneous prank calls to Russia without you know it!
But I am curious to try Irda. No cords and all that, but I don't know how or how much data can be transmitted that way. Maybe I'll fork out the $20 and see.
I MIGHT try the IrDa. I still thinking about it. 🙂
