THE 850 CINGULAR VERSION EXISTS!!!
I was browsing Ebay for Nokia phones for Cingular, and came across an auction for a Nokia 7610 for Cingular. In the listing, the seller wrote that he worked for Cingular, and was only selling the phone because he won a 6230i at work. I e-mailed him, and he said that yes, his new phone is the 'i,' with the megapixel camera and larger memory, and on the 850 band! According to him, the phone will be in stores in 2005! I'm so tired of waiting...I hope I can hold out till it gets here. But it's coming...

I've not heard or seen this anywhere else yet. Hard to believe it for sure 3rd hand from an E-Bay seller just yet.

seriously, the "i" upgrade makes this one of the most well-rounded, all together best cell phones on the market. Who cares if it's not a flip!
please cingular can we get this soon???

Sorry I am very new to cell phone. If I buy an Asian version of 6230i ( 900), does this mean I can only have T-Mobile as my provider? Thanks.

I doubt it is coming to the US. I've seen Cingular's roadmap through Q4 2005, and it is nowhere to be found. Also, my contacts at Nokia have consistently stated that they are not bringing and 850 version to the US.
Note to noodleHP: yes, if you buy an 850i from Asia or elsewhere, T-Mobile would be the only carrier where you would not be missing coverage. If you are on the west coast, it would work pretty well on Cingular as the original PacBell Wireless 1900 network is what they still use, in addition to the AT&T 850/1900 network they purchased.

Thank you, uo95, for your reply. After reading your message, I gave up 6230i. Meanwhile, I also miss the launch of 6682...
Another question for you: how about Nokia 6270! Any information you can share about this phone? ( p.s. - I also read your message about N90)
