Too Bad...

Hmm... I've actually seen a decent prototype of the i830 back in july, which included a camera in the center portion of the back, but it doesn't seem as though Samsung/Verizon will release it anytime soon... Was also hoping for Windows Mobile 5.0 or at least BT V 1.2 upon its release on this one... Oh well, at least it works on the EVDO network- Certain rumors implied that it wasn't going to happen... Guess i'll stick to my i730 for now...

Cameras on Global Phone items become problematic - the customers who want these products often have camera-phone prohibitions. Add that to the lower take rate on global vs. non-global phones, and it becomes too expensive to offer camera and non-camera SKUs.
...
So then why is the treo 650 such a hot selling item?
...
That's irrelevant - the Treo's not a global phone. VZW got a lot of pushback when it finally launched a CDMA/GSM phone and it turned out to be a camera device (SCH-A790).

yeah but seriously, this whole global phone thing... I mean who really travels the world all the time? I need something that works where I live. Even then just get a GSM phone, not a CDMA because the WCDMA is different in Europe. And if it is for business use then wouldn't you want push email anyway? Then get a blackberry. Both the treo and Q will have push as well. CDMA phones can't be global anyway so why not just ad the camera anyway? The keypad is easier on the SCH so they might have a chance beating up on Treo.. but not with a camera. It all comes down to this: most people want to carry one thing only.
...
You're not making sense - first you say just get a GSM phone for Europe, then you say people only want to carry one thing.
First, you can use VZW's CDMA outside the US. Canada, Mexico, Taiwan, Korea and many other places.
The i830 is a CDMA/GSM-GPRS device - GSM-GPRS for Europe, CDMA for the above (see VZW's Global Roaming procedures for more info).
This device is for the people you describe in the last line - they only want to carry one device. As such, the device will cater more to the business traveler - not the user who wants to take pics of hotties - and will not have a camera.

Just put in the damn camera and make everybody happy.

I work in the court system. A smart phone with no camera is going to be a hot item.
...
Just an example, I live in an area where the government employs more than 20% of the population. No camera on site, period. Just a small example. Work places are getting this way more and more by the day.
Come on, there isn't one US camera phone that can substitute for a good point-and-shoot camera anyway. By the way, the Treo 650 and Audiovox 6600 were both made w/ and w/o camera. I do agree they should do the same here though, for the people who can have camera in the workplace.

james you see to be an exp... could you tell me if the SCH-i730 would work with any major gsm carriers in europe?
...
why they making the motorola Q with a camera huh? it already seems like a sell out and it hasn't even come out!!!!
