Camera or Video with Phone closed?

I wonder if anyone knows if pictures and/or video can be taken with the phone closed?

Also, can anyone with an SCH-a890 comment on picture quality compared to phones like the LG vx8000/8100? I was always under the impression that Samsung's phone cameras weren't as good.
