Hi, I recently got this phone and was told I could send myself mid ringtones via pix message. So I tried sending my old ringtones(saved on my comp) the ones off of walmart, and they dont play on the phone. I get the pix message and it doesnt play and when I save the sound it says File "songname.mid" already exists, Rename? Now if i click yes and rename it, it says the same thing again, and if I press no then it takes me back to pix message menu. When I look in sounds, there is no ringtone there. Someone please help, I need to put some ringtones untill I get the SD card. Thanks in Advance.

I just tried this method in an effort to help you, here's what I did:

Sent a blank email from my computer to myNumber@vzwpix.com with a .mid file as an attachment.

The message was received by the phone and when I opened it, the midi file began to play. I then hit the Options button and selected Save Sound.

I left the name as it was (do not type .mid after the file name, the phone will add the .mid to whatever you type in the Enter Name box.

The sound was saved to the phone memory in the MY_SOUNDS folder and could be used as a ringtone.

Everyone is talking about these WalMart ringtones... Can you play the midi files on your computer with a standard midi player (PSMPlayer, for instance, will play both .midi and .qcp so you can ...

As I said, after I received it on my phone, I saved it to the phone.

The file name field did not include the .mid because the phone already knows it is a .mid, so I did not add it, that's what I meant.

I had the same thing happen to me. I believe it is because it sees that it is a mp3 file even if you have changed the file extention to .mid. You either have to have a WAV file with a .mid extention or a real midi file, before the phone will let you save it. The only trouble with WAV is it takes so much memory on your phone. There is a thread on Howard Forums with a sticky that discusses how you can compress a Wav file into a special type of mp3 file that the phone won't reject like a regular mp3 file. I haven't been able to get the software to work that is supposed to do this conversion the way he describes. The Bitpim method seems a lot simpler but it will have to wait for me to get a USB cable and driver.

actually on this phone you have to send it with the .mp3 ext and it works fine. the only prob is it automatically compresses the file so the quality isnt nearly as good as downloading from GIN. im assuming if you put the songs on a t/f card in the my sounds folder that it wont compress them when you put the card into the phone as long as you leave them on the card and dont transfer to the phone.
