I see some people talking about switching the setting to EVDO off, what is that exactly?

EVDO is for high speed connections, used for VCAST. If you are in an area that does not have VCAST service yet, but are bordering on one that does and your phone is constantly searching and going from EVDO to 1X and back it significantly drains your battery. So people who have this happen opt to turn it off to save on battery power.
