I got the A950 during thanksgiving weekend when it was on sale for $100. Absolutely loved the phone till I started to have major trouble with calls. The phone for 1 hour periods just would not send or receive ANY calls. Happened twice the 1st week I had the phone. I exchanged it under warranty, and the 2nd phone had a big problem with dropping calls. Exchanged it again, and 3rd phone was fine, but I was so worried I would have problems again, I just returned the phone. I didnt want to risk gettin stuck with a phone for 2 years that I had to replace twice in the 1st 15 days.... But now going through forums, it doesnt seem that anyone else was having the problems I had.... would you suggest I get the phone again? I loved it, just didnt want to...

Have you tried the 8100? Great phone, very similar, but with more options, like being able to view your text messages from the outside screen, more menu options, abilitly to use Bitpim for MP3 ringtones and more.

In fairness to the vx-8100, there is a hack available, missing with the new a950, allowing you ...

I just learned that you can not have the new a950 reflashed with older software. That's a bummer if you want mp3 file playing capability.
Furthermore, once you have reflashed your old a950 with the new firmware, there is no going back to the old, either. It is rumored that in the future, however, when other fixes become available for the older phones, there will be two versions, one for the old mp3 playing phones, and one version for the newer wma music media phones.

"Furthermore, once you have reflashed your old a950 with the new firmware, there is no going back to the old,"

Why is that? Would would prevent them from flashing with the older software?

I have the latest version of BitPim and have hacked ringtones onto my 8100 and 9800 with the filesystem etc etc. If you know how could you please send me directions on how to put ringers on the 950 with bitpim thanks if you can send them to bradg_7733@yahoo.com thanks again
