Boo to Transflash
I wish companies would get off of the Transflash!!! It's expensive, only made up to 512mb., and there's notadvantage to it over mini sd, which is cheaper and made in larger sizes. It's enough to push me away from an otherwise nice phone, like this Sammy.

The huge advantage of microSD (TransFlash) is that it's less than 1/3 the size of miniSD. That can make a significant difference in the balance of size/features/cost of the phone.

Come on, mini sd is smaller than a postage stamp, I would say that would be small enough until phones take the next step down in size. But in all reality, how much smaller will phones get? People's faces aren't getting smaller.
I can understand not wanting to use compactflash or something of equivelant size, but I would say Mini SD is plenty small!

miniSD is positively huge when you're talking about space on a phone circuit board, where every millimeter is crucial.
To give you an example, I just did the math, and the difference between miniSD and microSD is about 265 mm^2. That's more than enough space on a circuit board for THREE Bluetooth modules! It really does make a difference!

But, the whole card wouldn't need to be on the circuitboard. Just the conducters, which would differ in size, but nothing dramatic.

Phones are flat. There's no place for a memory card slot that doesn't cut into circuit board space. Trust me - I stare at photos of phone circuit boards on the FCC web site all the time. I've seen hundreds, and never a memory card slot that didn't impact circuit board space in a major way.

Just wait for the future model they are working on with 50 terra of memory on the head of a pin. Features will include:
1. 12 mega Camera w 101.6 x zoom.
2. Holds up to 80 HD feature length moves that will link with any HD TV within the room,
3. It will start you car remotely and turn the air or heat so it’s comfy when you arrive at your car.
4. Unfortunately it still has an extendable antenna but it's hooked up to the vibrate feature and doubles as a drink mixer.
