I was told by a rep at the Cingular store yesterday that the 2125 cannot be used as a data modem. They recommended the Blackberry 8700 (plus the $60 laptop connect monthly). I wanted to use the $19.99 SmartPhone Connect Unlimited w/Xpress Mail Feature.

i don't have this phone yet but am considering it. i could have sworn i read several reviews saying you could use it as a modem and it can be done via usb cable or bluetooth and it works with the 19.99 plan.

Your statement is correct. I occasionally tether via BT on my $19.99 plan without problems.

i'm reading mixed answers on this on different forums. some people say you MUST have a laptop connect plan to do this or else you get charged extra. others don't.

In nearly 2 years, I haven't seen an additional charge on my plan for doing tethered data on my $19.99/month plan, so you can put me down as a data point for that group 😁

I've used my 6682 to do just this. No issues. Just don't let customer care know you do, cuz then they'll say you can't & charge you more.
