wifi question
Pardon me for my basic level of ignorance here, but can anyone explain how I might be able to use the wifi feature of this phone? If, for example, I was traveling and went to an internet cafe or an office or a hotel that had wifi access, would I be able to connect through their wifi and check email/browse the web on the E61, as if it were a mini-computer (using programs on the symbian OS)? I'm a cingular customer, but with the wifi could I access the web through wifi anywhere, anytime, without going through cingular? I'm trying to figure out if this would, essentially, be able to replace my laptop for email and basic web services when I travel and want to travel light. Yes, absolutely. If there is a wifi connection available you can ask the phone to search for it and connect, pending how secure the connection is.
And in essence, for light or short trips, the E61 can function in place of your laptop, especially for email and web surfing. You probably won't want to do a lot of surfing, as staring at that size screen for hours on end can be a strain but if you needed to, you actually could.
I have an unlocked E61 that I use with T-Mobile and I've also put in a Cingular SIM. No problems. Haven't had a chance to use it internationally yet, but based on my experience with other Nokia products I've used abroad, it won't be an issue.
