Is there even a market for this type of phone
I have heard (in Canada) that as technology continues to gain, that the entry level bar continues to climb.
The people at an unnamed GSM company has said that they will no longer take non-camera, dual band phones because VGA camera, tri-band phones are now playing in that price point.
So do we need this Sony Ericsson? At the entry level in Canada, the price between entry level camera and non camera is blurred, with the only place left being prepaid (and this is also changing as well).

unforutnatly there is a market for this phone, i have no idea what they sell in canada but down here in texas we sell just as many lg c1500's and samsung x497's as nokia 6102's, lg c2000's and sonyericson z520a's. and i know a bunch of 6061 nokias get sold through cingular.com because i've seen plenty come in the store. actually there are alot of people that don't even like the concept of a camera in their phone just because they think that a phone should Make and Recieve Phone Calls and nothing more. and there are alot of lockheed and bell helicopter employees around here that can't even go into work with a camera of any sort, it's a federal offense. what i'm trying to say is just because you or i wouldn't dream of buying a phone as low end...

Two words... or even one. ELDERLY lol..... Or OLD PEOPLE... THey dont want their phone to do anything but call. Afraid of change. Heck they would rather hold onto their old MOTO timeports and pocketphones(Which are in no means the size to fit in your pocket), its literally brick sized). They want them because of the big numbers and they can find them easily lol

Some people are satisfied with simply making phone calls, which doesn't make this phones lack of camera all that surprising. It looks small and somewhat stylish, however, it is surprising that it doesn't include a little more memory or a speakerphone... not essential, just nice to have.

I definitely agree on the speakerphone - that does seem like an unfortunate omission.
Otherwise it looks like a perfect phone for the American entry-level market.

speakerphone and music ringtones seem like no-brainer options no matter how entrylevel it gets. i agree

there needs to be a highend non-camera phone, especailly for verizon, this phone does not exist...

There's still a good portion of the general public that just wants to talk on the phone. Nothing more.

However, age seems to play a large role as well - Grandma and Grandpa don't want camera phones. PERIOD. Try to sell them one, even if you are showing them another feature that they want, and don't mention the camera is there, and you might tick them off.
Another thing is, I have ocasionally ran across people who cannot carry a camera into their office due to the sensitive nature of their work.... they hate cameraphones too. Guess they don't want to have to leave them at the door.
