Motorola Q
Is the Q losing steam...before release?!?!
Folks are universally tired of the waiting. Whatever the reasons, the excuses can only take VZW so far.
If the amount of chatter around the net is indicative of interest, it looks like VZW may have sh!t in their chair.
Incidentally I was visiting a friend who had moved to a more metropolitan area a year or so ago. He immediately switched carriers, and "have never looked back". He had a cool phone, inexpensive plan, rollover minutes, free nights starting at 7, mid-term contract upgrades WITHOUT contract extension, and on, and on. And it appeared the phone worked wuite well here...something that would not have happened a ye...

What provider did your friend switch to?
I talked to Verizon today about an unrelated matter and actually got a supervisor. I casually asked her about any PDA phones coming out from Motorola anytime soon. Her reply was "I don't see anything called the Q listed on our screens. They don't even tell us about the phones until they are out." I then reminded her that I had never said the phone I was asking about was called "the Q," and - get this - SHE HUNG UP.
THEY KNOW. They may not have a "secret" launch date, but they know something. They are sitting on this thing and they will not even do us the courtesy of giving us a bal...

I'm with you. They clearly know about it. They have botched yet another launch.
Worse yet, after talking to my friend this weekend, I felt even more reason to switch.
Aside from the things I already noted, the whole world phone bit is appealing.
All in all, the situation is ridiculous.
They know that the customers are going to keep coming back so they abuse this power for their own benefit. I'm pretty sure everything that has been brought out concerning Verizon on this forum, Verizon has known for years.
There company keeps growing because they know exactly what they're doing.
Don't forget that Verizon Communications owns most of VZW. Their pull in the communications industry is a lot greater than all of the other mobile providers combined. Just pay attention to how afraid the cable television industry is about Verizon FIOS taking off. And it looks like its going to happen whether those cable com...

No industry is so insulated, and no company is so powerful that it's course is not subject to influence.
Don't get me wrong. It's not like this is life altering. We all made it many years without cell phones.
The reality is quality sells...look to Toyota and the like for evidence.
Quality in the cell world IS reception. Right now VZW has it. If it loses that advantage, it's non competetive bits (which is EVERYTHING else) will stick out. Sure it will take time for people to realize. More time for th...

GM was to arrogant to believe that Toyota and Honda were a threat. Ford on the other hand saw it coming (a little late perhaps), and decided to do something about it. They created a nitch with their Lincoln products and Ford Explorer and F150. Then they went out and purchased Volvo (best for safety), Jaguar (one of the top luxury brands next to Mercedes and BMW), and Landrover (one of the best off road brands. They're now implementing the know how of those companies into their own (and vice versa), just like BMW did when they needed to build an SUV (they owned Landrover at that time).
Looking at what Ver...

Now I'm hurt. 😢 You didn't respond to my last note. I meant it in the nicest way possible, but was very sincere.
Did you do anything other than send it to the recycle bin? 😉
If VZW would only keep the customers informed of these little tidbits of information, we would be much more willing to wait! Fer fook's sake! It's about communication! I was under the impression that VZW was somehow related to the communication industry.
Now that I have such info, I will shut the hell up and wait for a while.
Thank you, smileyro. That really does help.
I wanted to wait for the Q or the Treo 700p, but too many Treo (700w & 650p) reviews were either very positive or very negative, and I just want a product that works. Too many people talked about Treo failed handsets and having to return them 2-3 times. Plus, I figured that the Q will need a few extra months (after release) of getting the bugs worked out before working properly.
I bit the bullet and paid the full retail price for the BB 7130, so I'm not on the hook for another 2yrs to VZW. Don't want them to think they can continue to abuse their customers so freely without consequences.
Here's the thing: even if the Q is exactly as good as Moto/VZW/bloggers claim it will be, it STILL won't be so good that the Treos or BB 7130's are not very close seconds, if not equal. It is not going to revolutionize the industry, for pete's sake. And by the time you're sick of the BB, that new Samsung which is almost identical to the Q (except it's even smaller!) will be out, as will probably a few other, better, devices. So either way, you win. And you didn't have to play by their stupid rules.
Nice going.
With that said, the majority of the customers that i speak with usually state it was a nightmare when switching to other providers and they basically crawled back to VZW. The select few that browse these boards and complain are not going to phase the vzw population. Out of the 51.3 million customers, how many do you think know about the Q? Not many. Would you say 500,000? I'd probably say less than that.
Either way ... As stated in every thread posted. Everyone is waiting for this phone to come out. Will this phone have problems? Sure, what provider can honestly say they have released a ...

The simple fact is that once the marketing blitz for this beast hits full steam, VZW will move enough Q's in just one hour to more than make up for all of the whiners that claimed to have jumped ship. 😛
