Why not Cingular?

Does anyone know why Cingular would not pick up this phone? I really don't want to switch carriers but am dying to get my hand on this Smartphone. Is it possible Cingular eventually will have the M-Q to offer?? Thanks...

Carriers pay for the right to market the phones exclusively. In this case Verizon got it. They usually make th deal for 6 months or a year.

Also, Cingular is a GSM carrier where the phone is for CMDA networks, i.e. Sprint and Verizon. As far as I've seen, there is no GSM version in the plans, but a UTMS version is (not sure what UTMS is).

In layman's terms high-speed data broadcasted over towers Cingular will eventually (have started in some areas I think) use across the country. Similar in purpose to EVDO (what VZW uses). Also not sure how legitimate they are but I have seen quad-band GSM versions for sale on eBay $250 shipped and am contemplating just tethering one to my E815.
