This is how it works. You are eligible to renew your contract 2 months before your contract is up (i.e. if you have a two year contract you can renew 1 year and 10 months afterward). If you sign a two year contract and wait the full two years, then you are eligible for the new every two also, which is an extra hundred bucks off. If you are still under contract, they will not allow you to renew (unless you break your contract, which last I heard was $175, but it may have gone up since). Hope this information helps...

Well, you're almost correct. You can cancel your service while under contract with the $175 ETF, however, Verizon will not allow you to reinstate service for 90 days if you do so. And c'mon guys. Why do that? You'll pay $175 to cancel, probably about $299 for the Q at two-year pricing, plus your $35 activation fee... You'll end up paying way more for the phone that way, than just purchasing it outright. Why not just wait for what you want, or purchase a lower grade phone at retail for the time being, so you still have your upgrade eligibility when the product you really want comes out.

I must agree... There are also a few loopholes aroung paying full retail price for the phone- For example- the merits program; If you have a price plan of $79.99 or higher, Verizon will allow you to upgrade you phone one year earlier than your original ne2 date... Also- you may want to talk to a store manager. Depending on the manager, they may let you do an early upgrade with the purchase of accessories, or the unlimited data plan.

My contract that I last got the $100 discount was done in January of 2005. At that time I signed a new two year contract. I redid my contract last month when I switched from a North America's Choice Plan to an America's Choice plan. The cost of my plan is higher than $79.99 per month and always has been.

Under the merits program, am I able to get the $100 discount towards the purchase of this phone? I will be adding an unlimited data plan plus purchasing accessories. Or if the discount is not possible, will I be able to at least get the less than full retail price by resigning a new two year contract?

I have been a VZW customer for over 17 years and I believe that this should count for something.

thanks, so i'm stuck ☹️ My contract ends in October and my new every 2 1 yr 10 mos is August, so if the Q comes out in May i gotta pay full retail :'( so sad....the things i do for the bestest technology

I was in the same position not too long ago, but try this. Worked for me ...

Call your carrier. Ask for their "Continuity Marketing Department". If they don't have one, ask for a "Customer Loyalty" department or representative in marketing or sales - the big carriers have one. Tell them you need to get a new phone, and you are seriously considering switching networks. No need to mention the Q or any particular phone. "What can you offer me to keep me as a customer for another 2 years?"

I called my carrier in February, even though my contract wouldn't end until August. They said they would offer me $100, but not until June. I told them that wasn't good enough. Try again. I now have a $100 credit waiting in my account, but ONLY...

ok thanks! i have verizon...and thus i wanted to keep verizon for the Q...is that who you have? had?

I was thinking worst case either I pay retail (my guess 499, 599 or 699) OR...

Buy the Q for 299 with a new contract and switch numbers then cancel my old contract $175 + $299 = $474 which would be cheaper than 599 or 699 right?

isn't it more important to keep your number so people can reach you (hence the reason for a cell phone) than to have a 'cool' phone for a couple fewer months? if this phone really is good, it won't be going anywhere...
