Here's the situation:

If you are not eligible for an upgrade and you do not have insurance on the phone, Customer Service can approve %25 full retail of a handset. PDAs are excluded. But this is classified as a smartphone.

Can someone call *611 and ask if the %25 off will be applicable to this handset. I just want to see what the representative that you get tells you.

Thank you.

The program you're referring to is the National Program.
It does allow 25% off full retail price. It requires a 2-year contract renewal, there are no mail-in rebates. You are also unable to use any New Every Two coupons you may have.
You are able to do it once a year and in addition to all that the phone (you're original) must not be damaged, and it cannot be lost or stolen.
It's basically for people who want a new phone although there's nothing wrong with theirs and they aren't eligible for an upgrade.
All that the thing says it that you're able to do it with all available handsets (i.e. discontinued). It doesn't cite any exceptions to smartphones OR PDAs (although they're usually put in the same category). Hope all this help...

The reason why i've heard we don't offer %25 off PDAs ... because if you took %25 off full retail of a TREO, the price would be lower than the 2 year pricing. Same with all PDAs.

You noted that your old phone must not be damaged. Does this mean part of he deal is turning in the old phone?

All in all this does not sound like the offer I was made. I told the CSR that I had damaged my phone and wanted to replace it. She said I could gett 25% off, no strings, no contract extension.

That is what the customer care representative told me. She had read all the information she had on the subject.
I'm also a Verizon indirect agent sales rep. The plan she described to me sounds more like something Verizon would do as opposed to a straight discount just because a phone was messed up.
With no contract extension there's no incentive to give a discount on a phone.

the 25% off retail is a lost/stolen upgrade. basically when some breaks or loses their phone, but does not have insurance.

Most reps don't care if it is actually lost/stolen though, so pretty much anyone can do it, because the 25% is with a 2yr agreement, & it resets your upgrade eligibility date.

i'm not exactly sure on the pda policy regarding 25% off, but it's been done numerous times before, so it's just who you talk to.

someone above stated that they received the 25% off w/o a 2yr contract. if this was true, then it was due to error, not policy.

also note: 25% applies only to plans 34.99 and above, secondary lines are not eligible.
