Voice activated dialing via bluetooth?

I just bought a Plantronics 510 for my W810 and it works great except for the voice activated dialing feature. Can someone please confirm that the W810 does not support voice activated dialing via bluetooth? Thank you.

Even using a Sony Ericsson HBH-GV435 Bluetooth headset along with the W810, I still can't use voice activated dialing via bluetooth. I was so concerned about it I called SE tech support. They maintain that it will work provided you use the same exact intonation and volume when you recorded your voice tags. I can understand that but only to a certain degree. My last phone, a Sanyo PM-8200 (a non-bluetooth phone) would take commands via speakerphone with all sorts of ambient noise and I only had to sorta get it close when pronouncing the name. I'm still happy with the quality of my phone but this downgrades my experience of it.

Thanks for the information about the SE headset, Jerry. That answers my (unasked) question about whether an OEM headset would do any better.

I've been googling this issue and ran across an interesting report of voice commands not working with bluetooth because of sampling rate incompatibility (8 khz for bluetooth vs. 16 khz for voice command software).

I contacted Plantronics tech support and they told me that the W810 "may not" support bluetooth voice activated dialing.

I'm not buying SE tech support's story about intonation and volume because, when I disconnect the bluetooth headset and use either the corded headset or the phone's mike, voice activated dialing works about 100% of the time. I have yet to successfully issue one ...

Perhaps you could share the link to the report. I and perhaps others would like to read it.

Had I known at the outset that staying within brand for my Bluetooth headset would not have yielded the result I was seeking, I probably would've have gone with the Plantronics 510 but I guess I'll have to live with my SE headset. If you're interested, I wrote a somewhat detailed review concerning my experience with the HBH-GV435 at Amazon. It does have its pluses but in the end may not perform as well as the 510.

Just curious...are you using a Cingular branded phone or an OEM? If OEM, how do you like your phone? If branded, would you or have you debranded? I'm just itching to find out if phone performance is enhanced or is this only about app...

The report regarding voice command and bluetooth is located at the address below:

I realized that voice command is not exactly voice activated dialing, but I bet they are related technologies.

I am using a Cingular branded phone. I know that members of this community have some very strong feelings about debranding. I am a newbie and I am very happy with the wide range of convenient features on my branded phone. But that may change in time.

Excellent article. Now I understand the dilemma. As for the phone I can't help but believe that it would work best in the OEM state but to each their own. Glad you're enjoying the phone.
