I had a customer come in this morning with new Cingular released Sony W810....
AWESOME DISPLAY....
however one thing i did notice, Cingular removed the POP email settings option and replaced it with the new (yet not very good and certainly not improved) MOBILE EMAIL....
at least one his phone.
can anyone please confirm if this is the email settings that Cingular has in fact done to ALL the phones.
I really wanted this phone, but if Cingular blocked popping my GMail account, im buying an unlocked one for more, just because it does more of what im looking for.

Where did you see that (in the menu's of the phone) because I think you were perhaps looking in the wrong place.

my cingular w810 also doesn't have pop..dumb
i also hate how when u click the joystick it goes to cingular mall first instead of messaging...or how when u go to files the first option is shop graphics or something...i never buy anything on my phone and cingular is forcing internet usage everywhere u look

when you hit the menu button, its the icon in the top right corner.
says mobile email.

Go into messages. Then there is something there that says email. I've never had a Cingular phone where they disabled the pop email and dont see why they would on this one.

there is no more "emaiL" in the messages menu now.

MSN
SBC
Yahoo! ....
only those email carriers rather than gmail, or my work email or anything.
so it SUCKS for me since i go through a different pop server.

i was about to buy one, im waiting for my store to get them already.
im thinking of just buying an unlocked one rather than buying the cingular one.
i was just thinking the cingular one so i could use the exchange by mail, but doesnt look like its going to be worth it.
unless my company gives me a free blackberry.

Double check under messaging if you see the phone. As I said, I've had many Cingular phones and they have yet to disable the email client on any phone I've had. I am not allowed to get the mobile email, as I was just trying.

Has anyone been using this mobile email JAVA program since this last post?
The issue is since you receive an indication every time a new email arrives, how much data is this little program using to constantly check for new messages? (minimal I'm hoping).
OZ is the maker of this program and I cannot find a way to download their more robust version that appears to allow any POP email account you want.

My phone is unlocked, do you mean debranded?
Either way, I realize the limitations of my Cingular branded phone so I'm trying to stretch the usefulness of this JAVA app that came with it. I guess Flurry.com is an option. The OZ website is not very useful.

I actually meant unlocked and unbranded. If yours is with Cingular, who unlocked your phone? I am thankful I dont have to deal with Cingulars software.

I might have to go unbranded at some point. I was afraid of losing the MediaNet homepage portal or whatever it's called. I enjoy it despite the fact that I use Opera a lot.

the samsung d807 and d407 dont have pop.

Well see, since I would never buy a Samsung, I would have never known that info. I prefer Nokia or SE.

i didnt buy my samsung either......it was warranty exchange for my w600i that couldnt make it through the triump of the white screen of death 😢
and i wasnt going to request a 6682 as i already have one. and i sure as hell wasnt going for the evil beast slvr as i have one of those too and hate it right about now 👿 . so i went with the d807 its okay but not what i expected for a phone that was so hyped
