Are not crippled on the Cingular branded w810. Only thing I see so far is the lack of pop email. Everything else works fine.

They did block ringtones. I have the unlocked phone and my husband bought the Cingular phone this past Friday. He can't use songs (mp3) as ringtones for contacts. Also, Cingular changed the shortcuts button to be orange and it goes directly to the internet which is REALLY annoying if you accidently hit it.... They also blocked some of the themes options, which was slightly annoying. This is my first unlocked phone and I never realized how much phone companies re-format these phones....

You CAN use mp3's as ringtones on Cingular's version.

I just tried again today, the option is greyed out and if you click on it, it says "option not available" (or something along those lines)

Maybe I'M doing it wrong...
I went to settings -> ringtones -> then set as ringtone...
What steps are you going to?
I would love it if I didn't have to unbrand my phone.

Go into your sounds. Highlight your mp3 ringtone, press more, and choose "use as" ringtone.

Yes I have one. You must be trying to do a full song. I am doing only a ringtone 235kb, one that I made.

LOL that's what I said! heheh Yeah you can't use full songs in the mp3 format. There are a couple differences I noted elswhere too...this is my first unlocked phone and I may never go back! hehe I don't like the "modifications" that they did to it. Maybe I wouldn't mind if I didn't already have the unlocked version and have seen what it can do...

Oh ok I wasn't paying attention LOL. But can someone please explain why a full song is needed for a ringtone when your phone only rings for 30 seconds. I cut the portion of the song I want and use it as my ringtone. I kinda like the mobile email program on Cingular's version but overall I like my unlocked version better.

Well, for me, I'm a big music freak. (also a DJ)
With my s710, I would upload tons of songs onto my memory stick and use them as ringtones, instead of paying the $1.99 to $2.99 fees...
I do use a program to cut up mp3s so I can use them as ringtones, called adobe audition but I honestly like the freedom of using ANYTHING as a ringtone.

Wotonserver here I come!

They seem to be blocked based on their size. I read online somewhere that they need to be under 600 KB. I used an MP3 editor to cut sown some tracks and to resample them down to a bit rate of 96 and then I was able to use them as ringtones. I still have not been able to use a full-length, full-size MP3 though.

This is the free MP3 editing software I used: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
