I recently had the chance to hold one of these Cingular phones. I was impressed by the quality of this device. However, I noticed that when the phone is closed you can still activate the camera and take a picture. This leads me to believe that there will be accidental pictures taken while it is inside your pocket. I am not excited about that. I was wondering what happens if you accidentally press the camera button or power button located on the side of the phone while talking on it. Does it do anything? I am strongly considering this new phone. If you owners out there can give me an answer I would greatly appreciate it.

The keyboard and exterior buttons are locked automatically about one minute after the cell phone is closed. Also, they are locked after after one minute of no activity if the cell phone is left open.
...
Thanks Charlie 5 for your reply. So, if the phone is closed for a minute or longer with no activity then I cannot access the camera feature unless I open the phone? The same holds true if the phone is open, right?
Another question I have is in reference bluetooth. Is it possible to make a phone call via bluetooth and shut the phone and stick it in your pocket without hanging up the phone? This is probably a stupid question but I have not had a flip phone is quite sometime.
Thanks you for your replies.

yes, to both questions about the camera (and power button). you can also set the delay time for how long it takes the phone keys to lock.
and yes, to the bluetooth and the closing the phone question. i do it all the time!

Has Nokia corrected the problem concerning the sending pictures yet? I understand that several of these models have a glitch that does not allow anyone to send a picture without the phone powering off.

you know i had trouble sending pics and vids. i took back the phone and got it exchanged for another new 6126. no more trouble. then i got a second 6126. (the 1st one was for my wife.) then i had the same problem again! i just entered the code and did a factory reset, then no more problemo! i've been sending pics and vids all the time. makes me wonder if that was all i needed to do with the first one i exchanged.
so all that to say. try the factory reset (the code is 12345) and if that doesn't work, exchange the handset.

nokia-nut, you mentioned one can set the delay time for how long it takes the phone keys to lock. I can't find any reference to this in the manual. How is this done or where can I find a reference to this do? Thanks.
...
select: menu-settings-phone settings-automatic keyguard-on-
once you select ON for the auto keyguard the time choice pops up.

Thanks, I was wondering where you found this information. Is there a better manual or information available elsewhere other than Nokia for the 6126? Their manual leaves a lot to be desired.

RE: Camera being activated. The information is incorrect. I've hit the camera button and sure enough I've taken a picture of my pocket. Also to consider. When sending a pix of your Pocket to someone else the phone powers down and restarts. I'm not sure if it's my phone or something I'm doing wrong. I've put the help wanted sign out and I'm still waiting for replies. Don't get me wrong the phone is great with those exceptions. Scale of 1 - 10 was a 10 scale is dropping.

I know that you can take pictures of yourself or turn the phone off. However, you can lock the keypad and you'll be just fine. If you accidentally press the camera button and your keypad is locked, it just says that the camera is on standby. It won't do anything. I ALWAYS lock my keypad, because I know that I will accidentally press buttons. I highly suggest getting this new phone. It's really nice, even though the battery life is not that great. However, if you don't mess with the phone: take pictures, listen to the mp3 player, your phone battery should last you like any other cell phone battery out there.

When the keypad and outer keys are locked do you have to unlock the keypad to use all of the functions such as taking a picture or making a phone call OR do the keys automatically unlock when you open the phone to use the necessary funtions?
I thank everyone for anwering my questions.
...
The keypad will automatically unlock when you flip open the phone and you can use ALL of the features.

WIth all of this phone's features why in the world is it called a mid level GSM phone? To me, it seems like it does everything but pay the cell phone bill! 😁
I am very tempted to jump on this phone. However, I have heard great things about the Motorola V3XX. I understand that it has made incredible strides over the regular V3. I have nightmares about the V3. I have never had a bad Nokia though.
...
I have never had a bad Nokia, either. I highly recommend this phone. I do not recommend Motorola phones, because I have had them before and the ones I have owned, they all either broke or had some internal problem that needed to be fixed. Well, good luck with whatever phone you decide to choose.

Now I understand the Nokia N75 is on Cingular's web page. Is this worth the extra $$$ compared to the Nokia 6126? I suppose I will wait to see one in person when the local stores get them in. I am sure it will be expensive!

How do I do a factory reset?
...
menu
*settings
*reset device
*security code
{nokia default:12345}
this might work.........
...
I tried that. It did not work. I turned the phone off and then back on to check something and the external display turned white again and it has stayed that way. I will be getting the new phone later this week, so I'll only have to deal with it for a short time longer.
