Painted -
I got tired on wating on Cingular. I ordered the 6131 from TigerDirect. $303 delivered to my door.
My inital impressions is that it did not feel "consistant".. a bit light - but once youp put the battery in - it gains weight and feel much better.
The screen is indeed amazing. Camere is "so-so" at best. Bur then again i hope this would not be your primary camara for family vacations. Its great for taking pictures of your friends while they are doing silly stuff and emailing them later.
The key pad feels a tad plasticy - but the button layout, size and feel are excelent. The silver bezel around the keys feel cheap. Minor quibble
The flap opens with a "click" when opne manualy - but smoothly when the button is used.

When your finger or cheek touches the inner screen does it leave a mark that is hard to clean?

Not hard to clean - but yes - it does..
Thats unavoidable though..
...
If you wanna keep it clean use a glasses cleaning cloth

okay....
question #1- are you using cingular as your provider?
#2 - is the phone unlocked and unbranded?
#3 - and this is the big one for me..... if its unbranded/unlocked, can you RECEIVE video messages ?
i was using an unlocked t-mo 6101 on cingular and the only (but annoying) thing that didnt work was receiving video messages.
thanks

Using cingular.. in Howard forums there was some talk about functionality (Voice mail icon working and stuff) that they guys seemed to hav etraced to the type of SIM card. Evrything works pefectly with my 64K Orange SIM card..
I have never done video messages - so i dont know if it would work or not.. how would i try? If its eaey enough i can try it out for u
It is unbraded and unlucked
...
i think you can just record a quick video and send it to your own number and see if it will come back to you properly.
thanks for the quick reply!

Well according to my phone i havent set the multimedia setting... not sure how i would do that..
...
You may also need to go into menu>messaging>message settings>multimedia messages>allow multimedia recept=yes, incoming multimedia messages=receive.

sorery guys.. not woking.. it sits on my "outbox" how long shoud it take?
...
it shouldn't take long at all. but it should not sit in your outbox. you should get a funny mms message when it comes back in to you.

I think something esle might be wrong... i dont get an GPRS connection... i didnt get one on my previous phone either
...
the same link that i sent you before from nokia should supply you with the gprs connection as well as the mms settings.

i thkn the prpob is thaat i dont have GPRS acces...the phone says : "packet data connection not available"
...
You need to set the phone to your carriers VPN, not internet access.

and.. thats done how?.. I dont even have the "G" on my phones display?
Do i need to purches the Media Plan form Cingluar to get access?
...
No, you don't need to do that. Go to menu>settings>configuration settings=carrier gprs. My "g" or "e" doesn't show up until I send the MMS.
...
you should be able to call cingular and get the mms service center number to fix your message issue
...
thanks, but tried that. called t-mo also. even called nokiusa. it just seemed that when t-mo branded the phone, there was something in the setup that blocked mms on cingulars network and vice-versa. i finally got through the problem by changing my t-mo 6101 for a cing 6102.
i'm trying to wait on the cing 6126, but if an unbranded/unlocked 6131 will deliver and receive mms, then i may got that route. (or if someone could tell me if the 6125 mms could work on cingulars network).
...
I have an unlocked/unbranded 6131 and it works great on T-mobile. It will work great on Cingular with the 64k 3g sim. If you are on Cingular though, the 6126 will be out within 30 days, from what I have been reading.
...
can you receive an mms video message?
...
I was just wondering if you or anyone else could help me out. I currently have Verizon, and was planning on switching to Cingular once this phone becomes available. But now it seems that Cingular is no longer planning on offering this phone. My question is...if I were to buy a unlocked/unbranded phone, is it possible to port my number to the new phone as I transfer over from Verizon? If so, what steps do I have to take to have it done?
Thanks!
...
Yeah, but you have to start the porting process with your new company BEFORE you cancel with your old one 🙂
Good Luck W\Cingular, they kinda suck
