Samsung SCH-a870 vs LG VX5300
Has anyone used both of these phones and found one to be better than the other? Mostly, did one get better reception and have better sound quality than the other?
In the store the sound quality was pretty much the same, but now that I have had the 870 for a couple of days, the calls are some times choppy.

Price going down already?
Does this mean anything that Verizon already took the price down from $50 to $30? I know there were some negative reviews about the voice quality, but it didn't seem bad enough to reduce price this early.

External screen question
Can anyone who has this phone tell me if the external window stays lit up when the phone is open and you are actually on a call? I can't find this phone in any of the local Verizon stores yet. Thanks

Tried buying this at full retail, Verizon rep. says not eligible for rebate
I spoke to Verizon customer service tonight to get a price on this phone at full retail since I can't yet upgrade. The rep. told me the price was $199. I asked if there was a rebate, he told me yes but I wasn't eligible for it since I wasn't buying the phone as an upgrade. That doesn't sound right to me. Anyone know if this info. is correct? Thanks.

We tested this weeks ago.. The worst voice quality ever on any VZW phone.. The person on the other end thinks you are on some horrible headset or something.. We tested 2 units and they are bad. Samsung has let the voice quality deterioate from the 930 and forward..
If they dont fix this stuff , they will be out of the cell phone business.
Goto any VZW store and call your friend from the 870 and then call him from the 8300 and have him toggle back and forth between calls, he will hear that the Samsung is almost unusable..

VCAST music...where is it?
I've searched EVERY menu screen on this phone and can not find vcast music. WHERE THE $&#% IS IT?? I'm about to take it to a tech. Maybe i'll trade it for the lg 3300.

Oh yeah - I forgot about this other huge disaster with this POS! - Keypad Nightmare!

Take a 870 and put it in the VZW leather case..
Now dial normal speed 732-543-6789 for instance.
You will get 7453-5464-847438 and more.
The design is totally hosed.. The keypad is too sensitive and the plastic cover presses against the other keys constantly..
What a total freaking mess..
No joke on this one, you have to try it..
You have to dial like 1 digit at a time and wait a second for the plastic to return to it's position..
God I hate this stuff, Dont you wish they would just give it to users or me to test, it would save them millions..

can't have more than 10 entries in a group??
So I'm putting numbers in my new a870, and assigning them to the existing groups (Family, Business, etc.) I go to put another one in Friends and I get:
Group cannot have more than 10 entries
Huh? The manual doesn't say anything about a limit on groups. It does say that you can only send a text message to a max of 10 recipients at a time, but it seems to imply that you select those 10 out of a large group.
Anybody else have this problem?

I wrote a favorable review for this phone, but I'm noticing the poor voice/sound quality on it...hmm....

Question before purchase
Currently own a Samsung A670 and LOVE IT. The only 2 things wrong with it is 1. No Speakerphone and 2. Front Display is hard to read. My upgrade date is next week and I'm looking hard at the A930. I dig the exterrnal display. 😎 I've looked through the reviews and forum and have had most questions answered ... Does the front display show when a call was missed or a message or voicemail is waiting? I couldn't find anything in the manual either about what is displayed on the front display. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks ... Cheers!

Missed call reminder.
Can anyone tell me if this phone beeps every few minuets to tell let you know you missed a call. I go to the VZW store and the kids working there look at me like I'm crazy when I ask. My Nokia and LG dont and it drives me nuts that I have to look at the screen to see I missed a call while I was out of my car. Before my two present phones every other phone I owned had this option.
My contracts up and if VZW can't give me a phone with reminder beep I'll have to find a carrier that has a phone with it.

Question for Tapir regarding reception
I'm porting into VZ and wanted to keep the same kind of Samsung I have now, and the GSM Samsung I have now is the same form factor of the A870, except mine has an external antenna.
How is the reception on the A870? Are you getting the same bars as before? Any thoughts now that you've used it awhile?

Verizon pulled a switch with this phone. It was suppose to be a 2.0 MP camera , now it's a .3. Back it goes

Picked one up this morning
So far it seems like a great little phone. Relatively thin, extremely lightweight, small. Better camera then most, 2.0 Mpixel. External speakerphone button. Don't need to open it to answer with it. Haven't used it a lot yet but so far receptions seems as good as any other I've used. No problems with volume on either end or garbled, breaking up sound. Can't get rid of the red bars though. Cheap. So far, so good. I'll try it for a week and see what I feel about it then.
