I called the small business sales number 800-888-0262 option 2 and when I asked for it it came up on his screen. Charged me 599.00 (not bad, almost paid 900 for a 6915). Don't know when it will ship but at least I am in the "Q"

Which did you buy? 6940? 69??
...
sorry... the 6945. Wanted the camera. We will see how long it takes to get here though. I bought the over night shipping but I'll bet it will be a few days.
...
yea, I'm defintley interested in it. Did you say the cost was like $599? What about the comment in here the other day about Cingular saying that the phone failed it standards test? Although that person has yet to tell us what the standards are and how it fialed and how many times if at all. Well when you get it let us all know what you think of it. Also will you be using it on a cingy or Tmobile system?
...
I will likely use T-mobile for a while and see how it goes with them. YES it was 599.00! I didn't believe it either and made him repeat a couple of times throughout the order. I don't know what Cingulars problem is if it's true. Jeeze do you see some of the crap they sell now? Makes you wonder what kind of tests they actually do. We are a small group us PDA folks and I think the Cingular test is if they can sell a pile of them. I know a couple of people who own the UK version for a few months and they report no problems. I also checked another couple of forums where people bought the early versions here (again the UK version) and didn't see anything alarming at all. In fact most of the comments are on how to use it. I guess they ne...

see it is HP holding up the market. I am curious if anyone else can start buying these now, and also would like to know if it is 599 w/o contract, price point must be around 399 retail...

I bought it unlocked. It is not branded with any cell company. This is the only way I would have bought it.
...
ok but what service provider are you using it on? Also what about the chip and having to register the phones IM numberand all the other numbers athat are on the back of phines under the batttery? like the s/w and others, that are suppost to make the phone comply witht he system or make the calls clear or less drops.
...
Reidrew. I am not an expert on every detail of cell phones but I can tell you my experience. Providing the phone uses the same frequencies and it is unlocked it can be used by any company. I plan on using Tmobile initially and if they piss me off again I will switch to Cingular. Locking is just a means for a cell company to make sure when you buy a phone from them you don't take it to another company (nice huh). I have a Nokia 6600 right now unlocked and have used it on at least 5 different cell companies here and overseas. I just set up a new account and insert the new sim chip. Thats why I refer to locked phones as hostage phones. Your account and other details are all in the removable chip. Put another one in and viola! you have ...

So the whole thing about IM numbers with the right account is bulll? OR do you give the company the IM number when you bring the phone over. With my 551 it had issues so they mad sure they had the right IM numbers so the system recognized it. Also traded it in for new one and made sure I had the right S/W number but that just tells me which version of the phone I had.
It might be intersting to see if at all what products they add to the phone and which they take away or make inoperable.

It would be interesting to see who allows what with the phone. I think it was about 8 years ago when I saw this very cool Ericson phone in a Cingular store. Read through the manual and saw a load of features and bought it. Got it home and found out it didn't do more than half of what was listed. Brought it back and found out Cingular accidentally packaged the full original Ericson manual instead of their "edited" Cingular version. The cingular manual was half as thick. Just goes to show you that it can be a great phone only if they can actually handle it's features. I wonder what will be missing in the 6945 "Cingular" manual.
...
that is true
carriers almost ALWAYS get less enticing models, meaning less features, for just about the same price.
Im going with HP.com on this one 🙂
...
YES!! Very interested to see what is kept and what is removed or locked out. Does HP have the manual online? or a digital version? Then compare it to what Cingular or Tmoble offers. The fact that they do this is moronic. I think it may be time to start teaching these phone companies a lesson or two. ~Drew

well cingular just lost my business, im buying mine directly from HP tomorrow. Whatever the hold up is, Im tired of waiting. And i believe the one from HP will be twice as good as the cingular model..lets see 🙂
...
When does HP send the product out? If you order today wsill it be processed and sent out today or tomorrow? Or are they with out disclosing that they are selling a preorder and have to wait till cingular and/or tmobile can sale?
...
My HP order tracking says I will get it on the 21st. I called them and they said the warehouse is getting 300 on the 18th and 200 more on the 20th. So it is first come first served. On another forum somebody said they were told they were going out on the 13th. Essentially... who knows.
...
so basiclly it is a pre-order. So no reviews probbaly tell like late sept or early oct. Which by then maybe Cingular might have it and then we cn really compare what the orignal product offered by HP vs Cingular.
...
I think nowadays I would expect it to be identical to the Cingular version with one exception: The lockout code so you can't take your phone you bought from them and us it with another company. Oh and it may be a little cheaper but not sure about that part. Cingular will still sign you up if it is the unlocked HP, it's the same phone and it's all in the marketing. I personally need the unlocked so I can swap companies when I leave the country on various jobs. Additionally, I have a real problem with the principle of "hostage" phones.

One issue with getting a cingy branded phone is they add stupid software or always have it logging on to a cingy site or something. Also they may remove a software item too. But it is very anoying having it log to cingy sites or pay site download crap. But it looks like we area a week away from some of you getting it from hp and I think cingy will be releasing it too, since they are releasing the nokia861 or somthing like that.
