Ok, so cingular premiere has no clue, nor do the 800 number or store people. So I have to buy online. Ebay is never a good choice because something like this always comes very close to actual retail when you finally get a winning bid, and HP is still at $599.
i am out of contract on Cingular, want another phone, and have been using other pda phones like the crapy htc product (hopelessly under powered and volatile memory issues).
any good suggestions as to a decent roughly $400 price-point?

Check www.brighthand.com, look up the phone and they have a list of vendors. As each week goes by the price will drop but for now the lowest your going to pick up the phone is for $511 including shipping and handling unless you purchase the phone under Cingular. I have heard they are starting @ $369. Good luck.

Also, Cingular will probably be putting the 6920 & 6925 out this week based on the article I am sending in the link below and the fact that they are selling Cingular phones on the HP website for small businesses.

The HP is a really nice phone but the lack of 3G is a killer even if there aren't many towers and by the time there are it might be time for a new phone.

wait, cingy now has yet another option for gps? so the phone has native gps, and cingy has another, 2nd option? so convoluted, everyone talking in double-speak. that article makes it sound like i need to pay even more for use of the gps that is built in to the phone.

I got a 6925 from Cingular last week (on Small Busniess side) for $355. I have an 8125 currently, but wanted to check out the GPS. So far, I have been very disappointed in the 6925. The GPS doesn't work for crap. You have to pay $130 to get the Navteq maps, only the Microsoft Streets are free and this does not provide the voice guided directions. The 8125 is by far superior to this. I will return it and wait for the 8525 to come out.

I did not use the GPS feature so I can not comment on that but I have read many other postings w/ favorable comments on HP’s GPS and I've played around w/ the phone and I like it. I have not used it under Cingular to check for phone quality since I did not have the sim card @ the time. However, I have an iPAQ 4705 Pocket PC running Mobile 5.0 which has a pretty fast processor of 624 MHz and the 6945 was almost just as fast if not bit faster. Although, the screen on the 4705 is huge @ 4" long and pretty wide. The Internet Explorer laid out better for me on the 6945 but was a bit faster on 4705 probably due to the speed of the processor. Also, I was able to use Skype which sounded pretty well on speaker. All this was from using WiFi borr...

In my experience, both. I signed up for a 60 day trial of the Navteq maps. I don't live in a major market, so maybe that has some effect. I was waiting for this device to come out because of the GPS. So much for that.

TeleNav is a great service and this model is supported. I've used TeleNav with my iDEN phones, as well as the BB 8700c and the Motorola SLVR. I'm probably going to pick up this phone and use TeleNav on it as well. This model does not require the external bluetooth GPS module that TeleNav has so that will be nice not to have to lug around another piece of equipment.
Bottom line is that TeleNav is affordable, easy to use and reliable...

I have telenav with AT&t and I can't live without it, literally. I have had a Garmin nuvi 750 and TomTom GO 720, and Telenav literally has at least twice the POI. I remember those expensive map updates too, telenav has FREE map, poi, voice, etc updates. I first saw TeleNav mentioned in the New York Times and then I went to their website:telenav.com $10/month is a great deal, especially considering it offers more features than a $600 standalone unit.
