Now that I've decided to part with my Motorola Q after using it for 10 days, I'm back in the market for a phone. Was about to swap out the Q for a RAZR V3m but then saw this little gem appear out of nowhere. Seems like it's packed with features, but I'm curious to know if (1) Verizon has put their crappy UI on this one like they have on the RAZR (2) what the difference in thickness is compared to the RAZR and (3) what the screen resolution is compared to the RAZR. Not a huge fan of the Verizon RAZRs but they seemed to be the best option until I saw this Samsung. Any thoughts or suggestions?
...
1. Why did you take back the Q?
2. Why does everybody hate the UI on Verizon phones? Its just a menu.
3. I don't know anyone that has acutally held one of these yet, but you should be able to pull up both phones in a side by side comparison and check the specs on both.
All in all I think this phone is loaded, but it comes with a loaded price. Unless you need this thing to be a camera first, phone second I would probably go with the razr or the 8300.

yes I agree with liquified the UI is t a menu it works fine, Ive seen worse, and more complicated. Iam also looking for a phone, I like the a990, but it is more of a camera, than a phone. If you are also in the market for a digital camera then I would say get it, the $350 is high. The razr is a great phone and it does alot of things, the best part also is it costs $70 cant beat that, I looked at the 8300, but I didnt like it, I own the 8100, which I think is better. I would of kept the Q that sceen is awesome. Just my thoughts, Laters

I agree with camdawg. I have had both the 8300 and the V3M and after I had both I ended up coming back to the 8100 which I also think is the better phone of the three. For me, the a990 will only be considered if it comes down about 200.00 in price. I can't believe there are people who are going to be stupid enough to buy a camera with a phone built in for 350.00. I bought an 8 MP Sony digital camera for about 20 dollars more than that and I gaurantee you will not see the same kind of pics coming out of this phone I get with my camera. This phone will not even be close to as good as using an actualy 3MP camera. I spent 49.99 for my lg8100 and it has evry feature this 350.00 phones has except the 3MP cam and QVGA display both of which I can ea...

Fools?
Excuse me, but the 8100 is a POS in functionality compared to this handset.
20mm SLIM design
Speech to Text
3.2MP digital camera
TV-Out
Looks better
external split level OLED
Interla 2.2" QVGA
You the fool?
...
phones are a communication tool you moron..slim design means garbage battery life..speech to text is for people too lazy to type, talk on the phone, or write letters...3.2MP camera or 32MP camera, none will ever compare to a true digital camera...TV-out is something maybe 1 out of 100 people might use....looks better is in the eyes of the beholder...split level OLED outer display means impossible to see in very bright light or sunlight(see vx8300)...2.2"QVGA screen means completely washed out in sunlight and who cares this is a phone not a television. The 8100 does everything very well for 1/7 of the price. thank you for proving my point : )

LG phones are POS in general. Will NEVER go back to them after having nothing but trouble with my old vx-4400 a few yrs back. Everyone I know that has had an LG phone at some point has dramatic problems and swears to never get another one again. Motorola, Nokia, and Samsung seem to be the only ones that are consistent, although certainly none are perfect. But at least you know the mild quirks to expect with phones like Motorola.

LG phones are fine..It's you who is the SOB, MF, POS, so stop complaining and just die already

Actually LG phones have some of the lowest return rates of any phones out there. According to JD Powers and Consumer Reports, LG always ranks either first or second when compared to the other manufactures.
Motorola always ranks either in the middle or towards the bottom. For example: 40% of RAZR’s are exchanged or returned.
Nokia is pulling out of the CDMA market and will sell rebranded Pantech phones instead. Why is that?
Samsung recently came out and said they are going to try and become more original with their handsets, and stop copying other manufacturers. How original!
Now I do have to admit that it’s funny and sad that you expect mild quirks with Motorola phones. As a consumer, I wouldn’t want a phone where I expect...

Come on NEgadgetguy, questor the molestor doesn't sound like That Much of an SOB, MF, POS, etc[and what ever else you threw at him]... and we don't wish him totally dead [like you wished] now do we... but he should stop complaining about the amazing LG. He said averyone he knows hates them. ??? Everyone I know LOVES them, especially the new 8300. I've had a 6000, a 6100 (skipped the 8100... too bulky, took it back)and now marvel over my un-fuing believeably sweet 8300. I never had a problem with any of the LG's I've had. Is he taking a bubble bath with them. The A990 sounds pretty cool and if it's as solid [and intuitive] and well made as my LG VX-8300, I may get my wife one rather than having two 8300's in the family... time will te...

lol yeah I guess I was a bit rough on him, I just think it's idiotic when people buy a phone for the camera. there are people in this forum already saying that the photo quality is sub par. makes me just want to shake them until they get it through their thick skulls that it's a phone and will never replace a real digital camera. I agree with you that the 8300 was a very good phone but in the end I traded back down to the 8100. for me the 8300 was way too ugly, Verizon was selling the extra capacity battery doors separately from the battery to make a few extra dollars, they lowered the phones earpiece volume from the 8100, and I need a phone with a decent external screen, and the one on the 8300 is totally useless because the minute you s...

The Q was my first PDA style phone, and I realized it just wasn't for me for a few reasons. The keys are TINY and I have large fingers, so dialing and texting is a nightmare. The screen being "open" all the time (as opposed to a flip phone) is subject to scratches and damage, unless you cover up the screen with a case or protective film that defeats the purpose of having a thin phone with a clear screen. The buttons are easily depressed while the phone is in my pocket, unless you make it a point to lock the keypad everytime you put the phone back in your pants, and then unlock it when you take it out. The phone frequently freezes and can only be unfrozen by literally removing the battery while it is still on, since the power buttons even...

P.S. I've used almost every UI ever available and this UI is one of the easiest cleanest I've ever seen. the only fault was that verizon branded the shortcuts to something that they can make money on. Motorola had the option to move around options and create your own shortcuts but the actuall menus were slow and confusing, and long winded trying to do or change somthing. The verizon UI puts everything with in a few key presses. As for uglyness they are working on that with the flash graphics and the shortcuts are coming as well EX. lg vx 8300. Finally, this is what is better for the average consumer 80% of Cell phone users. so get over it cause it's not going away.
