Are the mp3s you have saved located under My Music or My Ringtones? Just by your statement it seems that they are in My Music which means you saved your music to your card. You then saved some of those songs to the internal memory which is dedicated for the music player. Long story short, you cannot transfer ringtones via that options.
You can use Supfoo514's solution, or you can take a clip of an mp3 like Supfoo514 stated and attach it to an email to your phone number. eg.(1234567890@vzwpix.com) This option will cost you like pixmessaging.
