No kidding. This is so funny! It's not even EVDO! I think my favorite part is that it says "Ultraslim Mobile Phone" on the front.

this thing is the same thickness as the Razr V3c/V3m but it doesnt have EVDO and it only has a VGA camera ๐คฃ

I thought it was funny too when I saw the Ultraslim Mobile Phone on the front too!! ๐คฃ
But I know they're going to sell, I don't know how many people said they are waiting until we get the phone in our store (next week)
Functionality wise, it is lacking...but at least it has Bluetooth
...
its a low end phone and wil sell to people who dont have the money to dish out for the a900.. so its purpose is not to be a high end phone it is to be sold to cheap people.. and im sure it will sell fine since they are offering it in different colors..
...
Low end phone? So why did they put a nice screen and bluetooth on it? Oh and the razr is about the same price with much better features!!! I hope this is a big ass flop for Sprint.
Its just another step sideways for Sprint. I also hope like hell Sprint is embarrassed since VZW released the 990 at about the same time..
...
It's a mid-range phone. They are adding some higher-end features, such as the Bluetooth and nice screen. On the other hand they are cutting costs by leaving out EVDO and the like. It's all about the look. It's flashy, it's something to be seen with. Some people just simply don't care about features, and this phone is for them.
After reading the review of the phone, I am angry to have heard that it feels cheap. I trust Sanyo to make a good phone, they always have. Ah well, i'll see soon enough.
...
Bluetooth doesnt make a high-end phone nor a mid-range phone for that matter....
Why dont you ppl get that this phone is aimed towards a different demographic??? Think of it as an entry-level phone...

what does the 990 have to do with the katana. they are in noooo way comparable. yes, i agree sprint should be embarassed about the katana, especially since they seem to be advertising it like its the next revolutionary phone. and the fact that it actually says "untraslim" on the front is just hilarious.
...
I think most of you miss the point. The Katana has fewer features than the Razr V3M but gets better reception. The Katana has 2 cdma bands and the analog band so if you are on that camping vacation to Montanna, the Katana will work in more places than the Razr. I sell the Katana to people that travel, older people and people who want the clearest reception. If you want a phone with more features wait for the Katana DLX.I have been selling phones since 1997 and I can tell you that Motorola, with the exception of the Nextel models are not as reliable as Sanyo. Check JD Power or ask anyone in a Sprint service center. Of the 50 or so Katanas I have sold this year, I have had 2 exchanged for a different color. I have sold about 80 Razrs and have h...

SO I personally don't like the Katana, but it is good for all those stupid people that are obsessed with the Razr. Atleast it's a step up from that. And it may look/feel cheap but you can take that phone and open it against a table and slam your fist against it over and over and it won't faze it. Plus anyone who's on here is obviously a little more into cell phone technology than the average person, and working in the industry over half the people that are buying phones say they would never use all that power vision stuff. To each his own.
...
I also like how it says digital camera right underneath it! *drumroll* the obvious award goes to... The Kan-a-Tuna by Sanyo!
Sanyo is two years behind, they need to hire some developers from samsung or motorola and they'll actually be able to make phones for the current market.
...
oh lay off. you had your chance with the 900 and best phone out there, a 9000. there coming out with a evdo one so let this be about style. the phone is better looking then the razr and cheaper. and for people who dont have evdo in there area or want a basic phone. then its a great deal. so dont complain
...
uhmmm this is in the market you morons... sorry its not 300.00 like the new razrs. People dont need all of that high end ****e. dont be jealous because the guy next to you is now going to have a slim phone that looks COOLER then your razr... but didnt pay $200 with a new contract!
peace out bitches
...
there is a specific market for every phone out there, otherwise they wouldn't make it, this fills a slot in one of them. I just wish sanyo would ALSO do a high end slim phone. Music player, evdo, etc. Sure it will cost a pretty penny, but I think it's worth it.
Example:
Basic phone - Free with contract - 30+/mo
high speed Data Card - $80 with contract - 60/mo
MP3 player - $99+ - 0/mo (15 with napster)
Digital Camera - $150+ - 0/mo
So you're carrying 4 devices, which you paid $330+ and pay 90+ month for. Or you could get One device that does all of that for around 200 with contract and pay less per month.
Before someone says that you can either do one thing well, or a lot of things adequately. I know.
By the way, there is a $5...

... it seems like you kind of contradicted yourself in this statement. What 4 devices would someone carry that you would play 90+ a month for? The only device you would carry that you would even have a monthly bill for is a cell phone. Also, i can only see carrying 2 devices, that would be an ipod and a cell phone, and an ipod is a one time fee and you can put thousands of more songs on a ipod compared to ANY cell phone.
However, i'm still confused by your statement.

true... but the thing about phones is that they might have mp3 capabilities, photo/video, and email/web... but they're nowhere near as good as having the dedicated device!
i know that if i want to listen to music, i'd much rather have an ipod than listen to music on my phone...if i wanted to shoot a video, i'd rather have my video camera than shoot a clip with my phone, same with a picture...and if i wanted to surf the web, i would either get a data card for my laptop, or use a regular computer with an internet connection...
until the phones get to the point where they can replace these other devices, there really is no point in having them, IMO.

you spelled "clapping" wrong, douche bag. ๐

actually my wife jus got this phone, and its not bad. i personally have a fusic.

Whats wrong with you people this phone has futuristic looks, has hi-fi lisetening, not just slim but ultra and a digital camera. ๐
...
Well? Honestly? Some of us need two main things.. Bluetooth for hands free and operational range. That kind of translates to needing a tri-mode phone still for some remote areas. Ex. Eastern WA has a lot of areas that are still in Analog and not digital..
For operational range of the phone/reception, I can give up the multi-media aspects for now. Maybe if they will realize that the whole world isn't digital "yet" and make a high end phone that has the tri-mode, bluetooth and all the bells and whistles AND the ability to turn off EVDO on a phone in case you are in an area where it isn't available (eats up battery life when it keeps searching for the signal) then I will buy it with or without a discount!
