Diamondhead's review of the LG Optimus F3Q
original version, submitted Apr 7, 2014, 3:51 AM:
Great budget phone for the most part.
I've owned it for about a month now. Phonescoop specs are accurate. F3Q replaces the LG Optimus L9 I previously owned. With a 4" screen at 480x800 resolution, it won't give any new flagship phone nightmares. However, the screen is sharp and bright. You will have to shade it outdoors but so what?
This is basically a slightly upgraded LG F3 with the addition of NFC (I have never used it, will NEVER use it), HD Voice (I can't hear a difference), LTE 1900 band (for maybe a little faster data over the LG F3) and of course, the QWERTY keyboard. I am not a big guy. 5'9" in the morning maybe. Average sized hands. The keyboard is USELESS to me. Instead of 5 rows LG should have opted for 4 rows and larger keys. Keyboard adds clumsy heft and weight compared to the F3.
I live in Long Beach, CA and I can honestly report that I average:
Ping 60,
Download 38 Mbps
Upload 10Mbps
and of course these stats will move up or down depending on location and time of day. I am very impressed with TMo's LTE speeds. Better on average than what my Verizon brethren are getting. Remarkable actually. Coverage still lags behind Verizon and AT&T. Sprint has been left in the dust...
One last gripe about the body of this phone. LG has made the back shell out of VERY slippery plastic! Be warned. I'd like to speak to the "ergonomics" engineer whom came up with this idea... The F3 is a pleasure to hold by comparison.
Just for reference, my sister owns the T-Mobile LG F3 so I was able to make direct comparisons. These phones are not intended for Power Users. Install Adobe Flash on them and they will make for a pleasurable and workable device.
Unless you absolutely HAVE to have a keyboard, the less expensive F3 might be the way to go. HOWEVER, this is a sweet little phone overall.
