LG V VX-9800
Average Ratings
LG9800 from bad to good!!
I went out and got one of these the day they came out. and I have suffered.
The one thing I wanted it to do was work with my ACURA TL. It Did sort of. Hanging up had to be done on the phone. That did not work for me. So I just kept on using a T-mobile pay as you go in the car that had a good working bluetooth.
So as I said I have suffered with the 9800 for a long time. Then I decided I had had it and went to the Verizon store to get something else. they told me I did not qualify for a new phone yet. So I asked them to fix my 9800. they offered to replace it with a refurb ...except for one thing they did not have any. So I waited and suffered some more. Today I went to another corporate store and they finally replaced it. BTW I put the phone into a cup of water in the cup holder yesterday so I was motivated to have it replaced(don't ask)
Well to make a long story short the phone now pairs and works perfectly with the car. It hangs up right and everything. The phone has a great speaker phone. Texting is a breeze. It has all that Verizon BS that I doubt I will use. I don't think I can play music on it like I used to be able to oh well.
All in all the only really weird thing about this phone is it's form factor. But that works great when typing messages to somebody the full keyboard woks really well.
Anyway I like the phone now. It seems like it may have a new OS or an updated OS than my old one. It is snappier to respond. The screens both look cool and give valuable feedback.
I will hold on to this one until it dies...on the topic of phones dieing...I just wanted to say that I am HARD on phones. I do not case them or treat them gently. they are tools for me and are treated as such. To it's credit the 9800 really held it's own. never actually breaking or not functioning for any reason. even after soaking or water accidently yesterday a good blow out and drying session and it still worked. That phone was BEAT up. It still worked.

cool phone
i wanted to buy this phone for a while but too much money but i saw it on amazon for free so i gave it a try like this phone. but i tryed the v cast it sucks not much interesting stuff there. v cast not worth 15 dollars a month text mess is cool. battery life can be better. the music sync is hard to use. i should of brought the chocolate phone it would of fit my needs better. well i could be wrong but who knows.all in all nice phone recommend to buy
Awesome Phone
I've had the phone for about a month now. After I read all the reviews and the help forums in howardforum, this is like the best phone ever. I text like crazy. It took a while to get use to the keyboard. I've got crazy amounts of mp3s on it and using the 3gp converter to put dvds on the card is just crazy.
Got bitpim to connect very easily, easy to add free ringtones and transfer pictures.
I had the audiovox 8940 before, yeah it had a mp3 player on it, but its so easy to transfer you pictures from the phone to your card then to you computer which you couldn't do with the 8940.
Pros:
Mp3 player
Bitpim compatibility for free crap
keyboard
the uniqueness of the phone
Cons:
None
Score: 4.8
All things about this phone are a plus except:
*it is a very heavy phone
*the keys can be small to those with big fingers
*the menu options on the outside screen are limited (must flip open to inner screen to access all menu options)
*the flash setting is deleted when exiting camera mode
Overall, function and build wise, this is one fine handset.
great phone
The phone is a great upgrade from an E815, love the e-mail sync (although it is pricey @ 19.99, plus you need v-cast @ 15.00 to get unlimited e-mail without using your minutes). Text messaging is so much better with the key board, camera is very good and mp3 are excellent. This phone is so much fun. Go out and get it.
So far so good, Im likin it!
So far I'm likin the V as they say. I haven't had it for long but here it is.
The sound quality is great, love the VCAST, I love the QWERTY keyboard for text, pretty easy to navigate as well. The only con I may have so far is it is awkward when you are used to a flip phone, but I think that is just something you get used to. Other then that Im lovin it!!! :)
major problems with wireless sync
I loved this phone when I first bought it-and still love much about it.
But--to cut to the chase--there are two very major issues with the wireless sync feature in regard to email use.
First--Verizon is having so far unfixable problems "pulling" the email from AOL mail. Therefore, almost all of the time I do not get my mail synced to my inbox. Verizon technicians have been unable to fix this issue and have no idea when they will do so.
Secondly, the feature of being able to send email from inserting email names from the phones contact list DOES NOT WORK. This is an issue now known to be universal to this phone--and again--no knowledge of if or when this will be fixed. This means that if one wants to send email to numerous people from his/her contact list, all screen names would have to ben entered manually.
Don't know about others--but this is a deal breaker for me. I am going to try to get Verizon to allow trade in to a treo.
Pretty Phone
When I first saw this phone I was amazed so I went out and purchased it. I also have sprint so I would carry both phones around everyday. The LG9800 is definatly a cool phone but the reception and call quality sucks. I knew the call quality for verizon was not as clear as sprints so this was expected. But Verizon supposedly has superior reception and reliability, and that is the reason I finally decided to hook up a phone(well the 9800 was the main reason). If you can't use it as a phone then Why Buy It? My sanyo 8100 is an old and used replacement for a Sprint phone that I had broken and it gets reception everywhere. I ended up taking the 9800 back to verizon and canceling my contract before the 15 days. If you don't plan on using your phone, Then Do Not Buy The LG9800!
Great for fun, not as great for business
Pros-
Great displays with clear and crisp colors..
Good reception (central IL)
Good speakerphone
Good IM/picture capabilities
Nice video/photo quality
Nice keyboard
Very nice Verizon customer service
Easy return process
Cons-
Cannot access work email unless using Wireless Sync (19.99 on top of whatever data plan you have - effectively making the cost of work email $25 a month (if you want to use minutes for data) - or $40 (if you want unlimited data).
Few apps/games/etc. available right now.
15 second video limit
Verizon crippled capabilities that need workarounds...
I returned the phone after 13 days because I was not going to pay out-of-pocket for the wireless sync on top of the web access for work email. I would have been fine accessing it via the web, but the phone would give SSL errors because my work email site didn't provide a 'trusted' certificate - and the phone cannot be configured to trust certificates except those that come from certain sources... I wouldn't be able to get my work to get new certificates. So, that wouldn't work.
That said, the phone is great if you don't need to access secure work email. I, however, am pretty ticked at the fact that there are email apps that should work on the 9800 that are made unavailable to force you to get their 19.99 wireless sync. I will be trying out a smartphone (2125) from Cingular with Windows Mobile 5, and may also try the 6700 from Verizon when it is available - perhaps then I can get to my work email and other apps without paying such high add-on fees.
Immediate High -- but now disappointed
When I first got this phone, I was flying high. Now, I'm about to return it for the 8100. Here are my reasons:
PROS:
⢠Signal - absolutely great - including from inside brick buildings
⢠Great sound from MP3s
⢠Internal Antenna
⢠Looks cool as can be!!
CONS:
⢠No cover for large camera lens - could easily get damaged
⢠If you do buy a case to protect camera, have to take it out of the case to answer phone.
⢠Have to press key to answer phone
⢠Can create your own sounds (via computer then transfer with mini SD card), but once they are on your phone, you can't do anything with them -- YOU MUST BUY VERIZON'S OWN RINGTONES
â¢Video - Yeah, you can take video, but the quality is poor, so is the sound capture, and the novelty wore off within 48 hours.
⢠Has MP3 player -- GREAT stereo sound - but I am rarely away from my computer, so I can get all that from my computer.
⢠Bluetooth -- nothing more you can do with it once you have your contacts up-to-date - Verizon has limited Bluetooth's use
⢠Has QWERTY keyboard -- BUT, symbols are not where you expect them to be, so to me, it is actually slower than T9Word entry
⢠A bit too big to have in my pocket and be comfortable
The thing that really gets me is the fact that I can not use my own ringtones. The 8100 has almost all the features this one does, but is SOOOO much cheaper. I am going to spend the extra money I save on as many ringtones as I want now, and I will still have saved money.
This phone has so much potential, but it still falls short. I guess I'm going to hold off on a QWERTY keyboard until there is an operating system, and there is more of a reason to have it than just text messaging.
