not worth the money

Oct 27, 2005 by ordep1962

had this phone for 2 days and it froze up on me while text messaging, not a good thing to happen after paying so much money for it. The phone is looping right now before i send it back. The pro's are the look and QWERTY keyboard the text messaging ease, great calling signal, nice outer screen and the large screen to get into the get it now.
Cons are of course, the unstable software, camera lens not so protected, video not so terrific looking.

Overall, I can't recommend this phone until the software upgrade make the phone more stable.

What's up with this ra-ra

I had used Verizon and moved away to GSM for phones; though the service is challenging.

First Pros:
Features : On the paper it has everthing ..

In practise:

Cons:

- Keys are too freaking small on the front.
The 5 position buttons is useless because it's so close on both the front and in the inside.

- Front screen is way too small. buttons just make it worst .. may be I am spoiled by SE 910

- Battery Life -- so so .. so so .. on good signal, without calls it's about < 4 days .. nearly 1/3rd advertised.

- Signal -- I get mixed levels .. 1x or ev come and go like it's a party ; mostly I get 1x but once in a while I get full evdo levels .. go figure .. is it vz or is it lg?

- surfing -- totally useless ; it's a mixture of verizon ( 90% blame .. I think deliberately crippling it) and lg (10% for very poor software for it)

- included accessories ; easy here NOTHING is included other than home charger

- From factor - not great .. barely acceptable for what functionality is available in the closed mode.

- keypad etc : suffers from lack of functionality .. this is mostly lg issue

I generally hate this phone .. it has nothing interesting and I purchased it because of the high average rating .. sad to say I think these folks are giving it high rating because they have never seen a good phone .. Verizon makes you compare crap with crap .. there is hardly any Nokia and no SE in their line up

I won't buy Moto and having returned a samsung and audiovox earlier .. I'll have a full house after returning lg too.

Hyped Phone

This phone has way to much hype for being an average quality phone.... Yea its nice to win text messaging battles but phones overall sound quality is a flaw. Delay in taking pictures gets old and so does dropping calls. I know its not the network because I have an E815 and that baby is flawless.. Bluetooth on this 9800 also is a prob. Overall not the worst phone out there to get, but for the price you pay... just get an Nokia..... peace out..

great phone crappy camera

Hey This phone is pretty much great. The IM works fantastically although the txt fees are a major sting. The internet is pretty fast but I don't use it that much. Others have complained about "having to pry the phone open", but these people are obviously idiots or extremely weak because the phone flips just fine. The recorder on this phone is also great the only gripe I have is that it does not hold anything longer than 100 s. The phone itself is great. When I didn't have it I thought I would need a bluetooth but now I'm pretty content with just holding it against my face. The speakerphone had me in awe.The only Major problem I had with this phone is the camera...My a679 had a better one...So DO NOT get this phone for the camera.

FROM A BUSNIESS VIEWPOINT

I have been a verizon customer since 1994.
great service in person and on phone.ONly one of their stores is very unprofessional.being i am on the road. i have enetered about 5 different stores..all experiences were great except that one store.
PHONE: returned it after 12 days.
>text message great fairly easy to use.
>sound is fantastic,
>picture quality poorer than my ancient
lg6000
> i liked the solid feel of the phone
> reception was great in NYC

everything was great. I hated to return it.
BUT********
do u walk around , open your phone to see who called you like 5 calls back?
you want to see it quickly.
''couldnt do it'' font large on 9800
was smaller then the small on my LG6000.
2 lines of info shows the previous call
the tel.# caller and the next line, the day time whatever.dont need that.
i called ..no patches available. also the TIME of day on front is small. i am in a hurry ..need to see things quick at a glance. i couldnt do it.I either had to focus eyes or put on my glasses..hahahah but that was a major problem for me. All other phones had much larger font.
the case didnt snap shut. so it can fall out after the leather gets worked in i suppose. The flap on the case ...flaps. no velcro, no snap.
I use GMAIL & went to URL to get connected.
dropped out many times.PHONE CALLS NEVER DROPPED OUT.
the screen is to small for the information so i had to scroll plenty to get to the message . scrolling fast caused screen freeze for a few seconds

I did not use all the other features. This was my main concern.
The keyboard was comfortable to me
The shift was NOT comfortable.shift on the left and to see if you are shifted to CAPS you look on the right..not comfortable to do that.
two chrome keys above keyboard , essential in operations of features were to flat level with the board. touching them or knowing if you are touching fully was not comfortable either.the 2 keys needed to be raised a bit in the design of phone

Will you really use these features?

Pros: Looks good with great keypad. Excellent for text messaging. Contectivity is great.

Cons: Unusable features. Terrible database management, no addresses etc. Also, desktop features are confusing and difficult to see.

Compared to services provided by PDA's this phone sucks. You can not manage your database on your computer, this one must be managed online for additional fee. Verizon is now charging monthly fee's for database back-up and internet connectivity. This phone is designed to create additional monthly income for Verizon.

The VCAST features seem useless, at least to me. What and when will I watch a ten minute clip of something?

I needed a phone to access internet calendar and provide a phone database with addresses. Provide these features first, then add video clip viewing.

This phone is for video viewing and text messaging.

Look at this or 8100

over 11% dropped calls 3 of same phones

Sep 5, 2006 by tsheff1

I am with Verizon wireless and always had Motorola (Startac and v710). I did not know what dropped calls were until the LG 9800. I was unaware you had to call someone back to register it as a dropped call. Found this out too late. The 1st 9800 I had they did not know why it dropped so many calls, so they got me a new one. The tech said my 1st phone had a software problem and although he said it's very rare for such a problem to begin with... the 2nd phone had the same issue. The 3rd phone is still dropping many calls. I find myself using my nextel work motorola as I am so frustrated with the reception and dropped calls. I live in Albany, NY -right in the city. Should not have these issues. VZW determined it is my phone again because I drop so many calls off all cell towers my phone uses. Since this is the 3rd phone, VZW's policy is to exchange it for a different 'comparable' model. Apparently that model is the LG8300. (1/2 the price I paid for my 9800). I am going to argue to stick with a Motorola. This phone has been very disappointing to me.
I also have BIG problems reading the display. Due to recept. problems, I often try to take numbers off my LG to use on a different phone. They are so small, I cannot read them (they are set to the biggest size also).
When they designed the phone, they should have also included a case it fits in without hitting buttons.
Pros:
Has alot of potential if they can work thru the cons, but cons outweigh pros at this point.
Cons:
Reception/dropped calls
font size
case
long time to access symbols (quicker on phone pad)

if the 9800 was a woman, i'd make love to it.

super nice phone. i have big sausage fingers and i have no problems.

Pros:
QWERTY Keyboard
speakerphone
text to voice
the list goes on.

I just really wanted to say i'd make love to the phone.

QWERTY

If you absolutely love texting get this phone. If you absolutely must have a screen that is a little bigger get this phone. If not get the 8100 and save yourself at least 200 bucks. They do all the same things! Hello I have already learned how to text on my regular phone and am pretty fast, do I need a change now? I am already acustomed to it. Yea its cool looking but it is about the size of 4 hersey bars stacked on top of each other and it is the same length. If you love the sidekick you will love this phone! Its not for me personly, but hey if you love to text then by all means spend an exrta 200 bucks, especially if you have it. It will be good for the economy. I rated this phone a 4 while the 8100 got a 5!
