Motorola MPx220

Do Not Buy This Phone-Terrible Product!
This phone is a nightmare & Cingular know it. It has some software glitches that they know about. One in particular, you can hear your party, but they can't hear you. It is in beta format as far as I can tell. Locks up, very slow to start up. Camera is awful, flash is totally cosmetic. Display outside is useless, particularly with the leather holster in place.
Menu is totally non-intuitive, "profile" to turn to vibrate not "sounds". Getting to an address, normal mode push the key 5 three times to get to letter "L" takes you out into numbers. So if you have a lot of J's & K's you are SOL.
Had an LG 6100 before this, had to change due to job change that was 5*, best phone I've ever had.
Sending MPx220 back and getting V511, hoping that's going to be better.
Uhhh The MPx220?
This phone had a lot of hype when it first came out and working in the cell phone industry I had to have it.Although this phone was capable of many things it didnt do crap. For one thing this phone was VERY slow. I had put a good amount of info into the phone and it would freeze up a good 2-3 times a day. The speaker phone completly worthless was not even loud enough for a quite room. The ear speaker has to be held at a certain angle to be able to hear the people you are talking to.As a very big texter I found it awfully annoying the my text tone would go off right in my ear when Ever I was on a call. Ring tones not very Loud making it difficult to hear when its in a pocket or case. Nor is it the smallest of phones.
Pros - Full internet browsing.
Cons - EVERYTHING ELSE
In my opinion Motorola is crap, and anyone who likes them just has not used anything else. And if they left a good rating they probably left it the day they got the phone so they are all excited... as was I. Got rid of this phone the first chance I got.
Way Too Much Hype-This phone sucks
I recently purchased this phone unlocked after trying to get it with cingular and many unsucessful attempts. The phone looks like a nice sleek phone but dont let the looks fool you. Trust me. The camera is awful, way too dark and has to constanlybe adjusted to make a half decent picture. The camera doesnt work in places that are not very bright. This is a problem because if the camera has bad settings, the video player will also.
Another problem with the phone is that you can not download ringtones because of a copy infringement. You can not download any songs that are popular or well known such as Bobby valentino or John legend. You can only download the star spangled banner and other tunes like that.
Another con-This phone is slow to react. Notice i havent given a plus yet.
The most important con is that you can not get insurance on this phone through cingular so if you break the phone, ur assed out.
You have to shed out another $400.
This phone is very expensive but not worth it. I think if you want a good phone, you should stay away from this one.
MPX220 submit your complaints
I too own the MPX220 and have not been happy with it even with a brand new replacement from Cingular. My biggest gripe is RECEPTION and Speaker Quality!!! It's too bad because if everything that this phone is supposed to do worked well, then this would be one of the HOTTEST phones on the market today!!! The fit, finish, features and looks are awesome, but beauty is only skin deep (let this be a lesson to all you guys chasing after good looking bimbos) -- underneath all the looks is a phone with great potential but with engineering incomplete. This is a PROTOTYPE phone and SHOULD NOT have been released to the consumer market.
If enough people complain hopefully Motorola will remedy the situation for people like us who have paid big bucks for all the promises this phone would do and have been sorely dissapointed. COMPLAIN TO MOTOROLA -- contacts are at below link:

DO NOT BUY
PROs
Compact with all the features you would need. Easy sync with Outlook and self intuitive menu.
CONs
Does not work. Full of software bugs.
Bought the phone from Cingular about two weeks ago.
The first phone started having crackling noises, and locked up several times. Took it back to Cingular and got a replacement one. Within two days I had the same problems.
After spending about 15 minutes with Cingular technical support, Cingular advised me to return the phone because of a just issued bulletin about the problems with the phone. Advised me to select another phone.
better then people say...
Pro's
Camera -- it may not look great on a tiny screen but once you blow it up on your PC you see just how much more superior the quality of 1.3 mega pixel is compared to VGA
Design -- Sturdy, attractive, easy to use, compact. I see people saying this phone isn't as sturdy as a mpx200 and i must disagree as I own both and use them on a regular basis. The button configuration is big and easy to use.
Screen -- 256k Color main screen 65k color external screen, both screens are bright, crisp and very easy to read, only complaint is that it's smaller then the mpx200's screen.
Software -- this phone is actually usable with its standard software, unlike it's predecessor which i had to take to Microsoft to have the 2003 version installed.
Hardware -- Fast Processor 64Megs internal Rom memory 32 Megs internal Storage memory, expandable to 512 Megs with mini SD. like almost all smartphone when Microsoft releases Windows Mobile 2005 (Code named Magneto) all it will take is 5 minutes to Flash to the newest version.
Blue tooth -- Great range and reception, i use a HS850 (Upgraded from a HS810) and i get clear reception for about 25 feet, hollow past 30, and almost unusable at 35-40, but who honestly needs to walk that far away from there phone?
Reception -- i live in Lynnwood Washington and the reception is immaculate, i travel across the state alot and i actually get better reception then i do with T-Mobile with my (Unlocked) MPX200 (triband unlocked)
Price -- Cheap most places sell this phone with a 1 Year contract for less then $250.00 in the US
Cons
Color -- Silver is hideous on a phone like this. they should have made the US version Black like the European/Canadian version
RAM -- internal ram is limited at 32 Megs, but this summer a 64 Meg Version will be released.
Speaker -- can sometimes be staticy, but why own a phone like this if you don't have a blue tooth headset?
Speaker phone -- loud... but distorts at the loudest 2 settings
After sale support dismal
After holding for over 30 minutes on the Motorola help line I gave up and made two trips to the Cingular main store this morning.
They can't access the internet at there store so both times they gave me things to do on the internet and sent me home.
The general attitude at the Cingular store is that if you can make a call, it is working and any other features are your problem.
Once I found someone who knew what they were doing, programing in the Email function was dead simple.
Summary of my complaints with the MPx220:
The documentation that comes with the phone falls apart both littler and figuratively.
It doesn't cover much of the windows software.
The microscoft web site covers the old software not the new software and all the menu's are different.
Most of the help at the Cingular retail stores are completely unfamilular with smart phone features. One was surprised that you could get Email on a phone at all.
It takes about 2 or 3 hours of dealing with web sites that don't have the information and people who are clueless before they will deem your problem severe enough to let you talk to someone who knows the product and can help you.
If I had it to do over I would buy the phone from a big retailer who has in house "geek" help.
Some of the advice that I got at the store not only didn't solve my problem but was just plain wrong. I was told to go home and set up a yahoo email account so that I could have free email on my phone and that is one of the very servers that won't work.
So far the hardware seems to be very good, but the retailer, and manufacturers after sale service could be a good worst case study for a business school.
Mpx220 YEAH!!
I just got this phone and man is it sweet!! Here are the basics!!
Good:
Design as well as keyboard layout
TFT color screen as well as its size
internal antenna
PC Sync
mini SD card slot available for hot swaping
Windows Media Player for MP3's and Movies
Bad:
MP3's ring tones need to be louder!
snap you hear opening the phone
Not bluetooth 1.2
lously camera flash
Well those are the basics and honestly this phone is priced high but if your a power user you will love it and if your the basic user this is not your phone...I would suggest the V400 or V551 if you like motorolas.
BAD NEWS!!! ABOUT MPX220
Hi u mobile-freaks..j/k Lately I have been playing with the motorola mpx220. I really Like the phone it's very sleak and kind'a mature looking. However.. Some of the cons are that it is kind of Big.Also It's very hard to get to the destination u wanna get to (examp) camera, ringtones, calculator. Along with that it ony revords for 12-13 secs. Now the Pros ,it's nice.. I don't really see a prob w/ the camera even though everybody that writes a review complains abt the cam. The pictures come out sort of pixelized, but still good. It's also very fast and sturdy.. NOW THE BAD NEWS> I'm planning to get the mpx220 for att. however, i think that they're not getting it anymore. For example on this site it only says Cingular is going to get not ATT (tentative) like it use to. Also hellomoto.com had a promotion w/ the mpx220 and att, when I looked up the phone it no longer had the promotion. And yes I know that att and cingular are joining. But I need to get att beacuse thats what my whole fam. has. So if anybody can help and tell me what's happening please reply.. I'd appreciate it...tony3353
