Motorola KRZR K1m

Sleek phone so far
I was really excited when I received the phone today, but was quickly turned off when I tried charging the phone for the first time and the phone said "unauthorized charger". After 5 attempts to insert the charger, the message finally went away. It appears that you really have to push the charger all the way in, or else the phone thinks you are using a lesser voltage aftermarket charger. When I tried using my USB to charge from my computer, the same thing occurred. Once again, you will need to make sure the plug goes into the phone all the away until your fingers turn red. I guess Moto phones likes taking it hard!
My excitement returned once my phone was charged and I got to use it for the first time. It really is a solid phone, sturdy keypad, very thin design, good reception & sound quality, nice music player, & it's sleek, sleek, sleek! There are better preset rings than my previous phones came with, so I didn't need to go through scam-me-now to download additional ringers. Blue-tooth also works great and I'm pretty happy. I keep forgetting the phone is in my pocket because I can hardly feel the dang thing. My only drawback now is that the front cover tends to get dirty pretty fast and I am wiping like a mad man to keep it clean.
My previous phones were a Samsung A-970, LG 9800 "the V", & the VX-8100. I was back and forth between the LG VX-8600 & the krzr k1m, and went with the krzr during the promo period for $49.99. I'm usually more of an LG fan...
Overall, I would definitely recommend this phone, unless you have very weak fingers...
I would've given it 5 stars if it weren't for the charger stress thing.
Great
Pros
Great design

everything except the cons

Overall
The best phone I have seen. I love it
Perfect phone for talkers!
The KRZR is the perfect business phone for talkers. I first tried a LG8600 with my contract extension. I liked the shape/look of the LG but the sound quality on the other end was so bad that I had to return it. I picked up a Motorola KRZR and I have been extremely happy with it.
PRO's
Battery life is awesome! Lasts much longer than my previous E815 or the LG8600 I traded in.
Clarity and volume are also exceptional! People hear me clearly and I hear them with no trouble. Does not matter where I put the phone to my ear...I hear everything loud and clear.
Great Reception...I have had no dropped calls (which is unusual in my area)
Speaker phone is also awesome (like most Motorola products)
CON's
The computer is slower than the LG8600 or other 'fancy' phones. If you use your phone for talking this wonât affect you. However if you want games and a toy buy another brand.
Overall the KRZR K1M is the best phone I have ever owned. It has a lot of features I will never use so I can't comment on those. But for a business person who needs to have clear communication it's awesome! Great battery, great reception and clarity on both ends with a loud speaker.
Not Bad.... To Bad it's not an LG
I am an LG guy.. Unfortunately, the MOTO's are just to great with reception, and as much as I travel, I had to get rid of my old LG-VX 6000...
Pro's -
- Excellent reception.. gets reception where my 6000 wouldn't even get one bar.
- Sleek design, small in pocket, so no buldge
- Camera is much nicer then the 6000
- Speaker phone is nice
- Buttons on the side are harder to push..
- Screen Easy to read in sunlight
CONS -
- Finger prints ruin the nice glossy cover..
- number pad it impossible to use when your not looking... No markers or anythingn for the call start and end buttons... If I were blind.. I'd be screwed with this phone.
- It's a Moto, so the construction sucks.. The batter cover already feels like it's not going to last, and i've never even dropped it yet..
- SPEAKER QUALITY SUCKS when it's not on speaker phone... Even with volume at medium, a loud talker will cause the speaker to crackle and be worthless... My Old LG, never once ever even came close to distorting..
- Batter life is funny.. Somedays I can go three days without a recharge, and then soemtimes I use it for ten minutes and it acts like i've never charged it at all lol
- NO mini-SD slot...
I still have 2 days to return it.. For the price, I could get an ENVY... But im not so sure it would work as well reception wise..
Tough choices... lol maybe ill just buy a PDA, and keep that with me too, then i'll feel special :-)
KRZR K1
I am currently using this phone for US Cellular which i work and i think its the best moto in a longh while. or at least since the RAZR..lol. It has all of the functionality i need and the proffessional look i like. I do agree that it would be nice for it to not be so scratch and fingerprint prone but the origional silver razr was the as well, to a lesser degree.
the screen size isnt a big problem for me because i use my blackberry for email and internet. but it would have been nice to have a 262k screen like the gsm version. im sure they will release an upgrade just like they did with the razr v3c and then v3m.
over all i cant think of any cons that i would take away points for. because it basicaly is a great phone. the reception is excellent, but it is for most US Cell phones.
Missed Opportunities
Although this is a fine CDMA phone, I feel that some opportunities for excellence were missed.
It's wonderful having the resistive controls on the front for music, but *NOT* at the expense of the screen and camera.
My K1 GSM phone has 262K colour on the screen and it is a huge difference between that 262K colour and the 64K colour on the K1M. The Verizon K1M is just far, far less attractive than the unlocked GSM K1. :(
Another problem for me is that Verizon forced Motorola to install the proprietary Verizon software in place of whatever else might have been available. The software on my K1 GSM is intuitive and very fast, whereas the K1M's Verizon software seems klunky and nonintuitive in comparison. The basic red scheme on the Verizon software is unattractive and it is not designed to keep the user's attention. :(
The phone also uses an unusual size battery that makes it impossible to trade batteries between the K1M and your other Motorolas (all the Razrs, Rizers and Krzrs are the same).
The camera is also 1.3 instead of the 2.0 on the GSM Krzr, and with the two phones next to each other there is an obvious difference in picture quality.
The good news is the wonderful form factor and attractive design overall. RF signal capture is excellent and the ugly software does move quickly. If you use Verizon as your main carrier, this could still be the best phone for you, but the GSM version is much, much nicer.
Softeware update
Great phone. I had the LG 'V' phone (9800). I went through about 4 or 5 phones with high percentage of dropped calls off many towers. Almost dropped VZW until they let me trade my phone in for a Motorola krazer. I never drop calls now. I found there is a software update to fix the fact that ringers can not be assigned to individuals. Go to store - ringer problem solved.
The only con is VZW of course disabling and crippling certain features as they do with everything. I have reception where NOONE else does! I have not found anyplace where my phone does not work! EXCELLENT PHONE! I'd like to find hacks. The v710 had a hack to get into the VZW menu to fix the ringer disabling which I found here.
Hacks anyone?!
Excellent Phone!
The Motorola KRZR k1m
Cons:
-slow loading contacts
-no itunes
Pros:
-everything else
-awesome mp3 player, with external controls so you can close it and play. Buy headphones for it too.
-bluetooth works great
-sound quality amazing
-reception excellent, better than any other sprint phone I've owned.
-media player neat, too expensive for my needs.
-plays your own videos, mp3s, images, etc.
-supports AAC, not protected tho (thats why i want iTunes)
-menu interface easy to use, only flaw is contacts loads slowly, but might be b/c i have over 400 contacts (can fill up to 1000).
-Motorola Phone Tools works with it, perfect for customization.
I love this phone, recommend it to everyone!
Compare it against any other phone. You'll see its smaller, lighter, longer battery life, ect.
My battery level never goes down, (i charge every night) and thats using mp3 player, Internet, etc.

You bought yourself a lemon. My KRZR takes a 1 GB memory card and the speaker sounds fine. You can buy a stereo head set from motorola and that sounds good too. The two things i don't like about this phone is it's a Motorola brand and the second is US Cellular doesn't allow us to use the mp3 songs as ringtones. I have friend who does it out of his store so i will go and learn how to use motorola tools to put on my own ringtones.
