My first Motorola
I love the speaker phone and MMS. It is nice to get pics even though I do not have a camera on my model.
Service and reception for this phone is great. I have T-mobile and RARELY have any dropped calls.
My previous phones have been Nokia and I loved them. I was scared to get a Motorola, I have heard horror stories for some of their phone. I would recommend this basic flip phone to any one who asked!
Nice starter phone for kids
The V180 looks to be a decent starter phone, however, if I am going to have a one or two year agreement along with my purchase. Then the phone is going to perform for the duration of the contract.
I do like the V180 for it's simplicity.
The buttons work quite well and the reception and clairity in calls received and sent are just as strong, if not stronger than the upgraded models. However the phone is too flimsey for my taste and I am sure that the low end plastic will not make it through my contract. I do not look to play games and sending out text messiging is considered new to me. So, here are the pros and cons from a meat and potatoes guy.
Pros:
-I like the buttons. You can find them fast and what is depressed works.
-calls are very clear however the speaker from my phone had a crakle to it when set at the highest volume. I am hearing impared and clarity along with volume is very important.
-Options make it very easy to personalize the buttons to what you need.
-Battery life is excellent.
-Reception good.
Cons:
-Feels cheap. My sons toys at x-mas were constructed with better plastic.
-Phone book was not the best. Motorola style. Never liked it.
-Start up takes too long.
-No notification of dropped calls.
-Ring tones are junk. Simple quality ring tones will do. I do not need to here "Hello Moto".
-This phone tries to give you bells and wistles. They are all low grade. I would not have put them in and spent the money in upgrading the quality of gadgets that did work well.
Do not get me wrong. This phone really does do the job of what we all intended to do when we buy phones. The accessories inside this phone are ad-ins or fillers. And would have done better to do without.
This will be a great starter phone for the kids or teenagers.

Great flip-phone for the $$
Excellent, lightweight phone for the money. Sleek looks, nice ring-tones (finally some normal ring tones for once!) and the voice quality and reception (through T-Mobile) is much better than my Nokia 6610. Speakerphone sounds a little tinny, but gets the job done.
When I first purchased the phone the keypad backlight would sporadically go on and off and I returned it for another one. I later found out there is a light sensor so it doesn't keep the backlight on if there is sufficient light. Of course, this is not written in the manual and T-Mobile and Motorola had no idea!?!
PROS:
Great looking, light and looks to be worth more than the $100 it sells for

Moto's OS system takes a big of to get used to coming from a Nokia

Other than that, GREAT phone, no real problems, will keep a good while.
Love this phone
This phone has wonderful reception. I have owned 4 phones in 3 yrs and this phone has the most crisp and clear sound of them all. My friends are happy that I don't break up or my call drops on them anymore. The blue backlight is nice as well.
Good phone: Small and cheap!
I have been a person that buys high-end phones that are not available in the US. I got tired of spending a boatload of $$ on these unlocked phones only to find I wasn't really using all of the features that these phones had. So I decided to go cheap and small.
Pros: Small, good screen, good sound quality, good speaker phone.
Cons: No voice-activated dialing, body scratches very easily.
Overall, if you use a cell phone for making calls and don't care about features like Bluetooth, a camera, mp3 player, etc. then this is the phone for you.
Not too shabby for a free phone.
Hmmm...where to begin with the V180. I guess I'll start with the good new and end with the not-so-good news.
Good news:
1). Small, stylish and compact(although I never did find a Motorola genuine faceplate for it, which I wanted).
2). Great reception and almost no dropped calls(which really depends on your carrier).
3). Love the MP3 ring-tone capability!
4). Battery life is incredible as well as talk time and standby time!
5). Very bright blue keypad at night.
Bad news:
1). Predictive text is SO ANNOYING!!!(with any phone).
2). External speaker for hands-free talking doesn't have the best sound. Not bad but not great.
3). As other users have noted, faceplate does scratch rather easily.
4). Phone-book system is HORRIBLE. Although you can add 500 entries(and who really knows 500 people anyway or at least 500 that you would want to call). You have to enter a person's name two times if you want to have their number for say their cell phone and their home phone. Plus, you can only have a few(like 5) entires for voice dialing(which I assume is because the phone has limited internal memory).
The V180 is a great phone!!
I would like to submit a positive review about the Motorola V180 phone.
After coming from the bigger Nokia series phones, the V180 was a welcome change. I did not normally like flip phones but the V180 has changed my mind!
Pros: great picture color (a tiny bit unclear but still very viewable), small enough to fit just about anywhere, external viewing screen, changeable shells, clear MP3 music ringtone sound, a huge variety of ringtone availability, speakerphone capibility even before the caller picks up the phone, great looking phone/sleek looking, plays games well (although I'm not a avid game player and play the simple games on it) - it downloaded the games I wanted without problems, and GREAT alarms that wake me up (which I went through 3 other phones that didn't have that!)!! :)
It has not dropped calls on me that much - maybe 10 times at the most the whole time I have had it (8 months now). And during some of the times it happened it was definitely weather related.
Cons: the speakerphone doesn't have exact perfect sound quality to the person on the other end, although I can hear them just fine when using it, and with all cell phones, sometimes there are issues being hearing the caller - in that when they talk they can't hear me and vice versa - but again, that is pretty much with all cell phones that I have used; and you can't change the external screen colors but that is really not that important considering all of its other features
All in all, I was quite impressed with the V180. I wouldn't go back to Nokia at this point.
This phone is no good
I have had this phone for about 6 months, I just purchased a Nokia, and will never stray from them again. I do not suggest getting this phone

Con's: dont get me started.....

Worst Phone I Have Ever Owned
Pros:-The tendency for the phone to randomly hang up is good when you are talking to people you don't want to.
Cons:-The black face plate is consistently dirty or greasy, it breaks incredibly easy i am on my second, the screen can't be seen outside in the sun, the ear piece might as well not even be there, at random moments it will delete your phone book, it does not vibrate and ring at the same time.
I could go on and on about how horrible and such a waste of money this phone is. The Best thing I can tell you is to look elsewhere for a phone because you really don't want this one.
P.S. I hate this phone with a passion.
pretty but low quality
I got my Motorola V180 almost two months ago and i am already having trouble with the screen. I have t-mobile service and my phone was free with the contract. i believe that the screen is really cheap and, compared to other Motorola phones, it is the worst thing ever. in general, the phone is pretty but you cant have a phone without a screen, can you?
the screen usually fails when you flip it open, it either does not work or it appears as distorted. the black top that covers the outer LCD screen can get easily scratched and it shows the low quality of this nice but bad, free phone.
if considering buying this phone, don't!
