The kids toy that thought it was PDA...
Now I'm not going to bash horrible on this phone, I mean it is nice looking had pretty nice video playback, music photo capabilities etc. It's really an ipod with a phone built into it. Also I am not going to give it a 0 rating it's worth a 3/5 which is 60% fail in most cases : ) The phone itself is good, the app store is really nice. I worked for at&t at the time I had it was a good deal. Now unfortunatley what were the people at apple thinking??? The original iphone is really nice looking all around. On the 3g it kinda looks cheap in many respects. My main disapointment is the media messaging. WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND makes a phone in this price range that can't send a picture message IDK it makes my head hurt. Anyway its just like the mac computers overpriced toys for highschool/college kids that are going to be totally outdated in a year so save ur money... Also ATT reception is not nearly what verizon is at least in the area that I live in. Where I work now my verizon phone works perfect full reception, people walk by all day with att phones, including the iphone, crying about how they dont have any signal. As a final note, the iphone requires a 30 dollar data plan be added to your bill, this plan has its own contract and cancelation fee from apple, and you actually have to list a credit card with them when you sign up, so in that respect you might as well get a real pda/blackberry since its the same price monthly to add it on. Plus the Bberry storm is 100% better for email, messaging, etc. etc. etc. In fact almost any data phone verizon sells at this time does. If you are thinking about getting an apple iphone just think to yourself, do I really want to pay 10 dollars a month extra on top of the 30 dollars for a ghetto third party application that manages my picture messages through email, I hope your answer is no. Also apple has announce a 3.0 software that is supposed to make the Iphone better, at this time it still DOES NOT offer built in media messaging LOLLOL

After been with Verizon for almost 6 years now and looking to convert to a touch screen phone, I recently tried the Samsung Omnia from Verizon, I am so happy to have been able to cancel with them and go with AT&T's new 3G IPHONE. AT&T service is not bad, it is actually pretty good.
There is no comparison, IPhone is far better.
If only the IPhone had video recording and pix msg, it would awesome, its still a great phone!
Not Bad at All
I wanted to give this phone a 5 but I can't because of no video and MMS. But the Iphone is definitely one of the greatest phone ever made. I have had this phone for 3 days and I love it!!! At&t signal strength is fantastic and Wi-fi is amazing!!!

-Camera (I wish there was other camera features but the camera is very good)
-Sync time with Itunes

-Microsoft Exchange - Flawless!!!

-Finger print magnet
-Ring-tones are too low and you have to buy ring-tones to use them.
Despite the cons, I am in love with my phone...
The greatest smart(brilliant) phone ever!
Let me assure you, I have a good bit of experience with other smartphones. Windows Mobile, Palm, PocketPC before that, as well as other kind of smart phones (KRZR, RAZR, etc).
The iPhone 3G surpasses these not only in features, but most importantly in usability. The point being, if you can't use it, or use it easily, you might as well not have it.
Pros:
Stability (post 2.2 firmware)
Call Quality (again post 2.2 firmware)
Wi-Fi (nice to have)
Signal Quality is good in my area (western Illinois)
Apps! - This is a big difference to the other major platforms. Not that things aren't available on other platforms, but the cost and quality are much higher and lower respectively.
Syncing with iTunes works great
Top usability
Other things!
The only cons I can come up with are as follows:
Battery Life...lasts about one day for me with my usage
AT&T requires data plan. Not really a problem with the phone, but I am grasping for cons.
Cost. Not at all out of line considering the competition.

I have owned the BB Curve 8320, HTC G1 and HTC Fuze. The G1 was the closest to this phone. However, there is no comparison to the way every function works. The interface is awesome! Web surfing is great minus the lack of Flash or Java. I was told there will be support for Java in the near future.
Pros: Touch Screen Rocks!!!, Fast, OS Rocks!!! Apps Rock!! Just about every feature rocks!!
Cons: No Flash in web or camera ;-), no video recorder, No Java.
Simply put....The Best!
I was a Sprint customer for over 10 years. I recently purchased the Instinct because I was told it would have better cell range based on the 3G network. Also wanted a touch phone and was still under sprint contract.
Biggest mistake I ever made. It was 5 months of hell. The cell range was not better and possibly worse and I couldn't use any of the features it boasted that supposedly made it better than the iPhone.
I spent days getting Sprint to let me out of my contract and before they even did (I was willing to pay ETF if necessary...yes Instinct is that bad!) I went out and purchased the iPhone and opened a line of service with AT&T. Luckily Sprint let me out of my contract :)
I am beyond thrilled.
Here is my review.
PROS: Everything just works right out of the box. The interface is easy to use and makes first time users feel very comfortable. Syncing is easy via MAC or PC. Internet browsing feels like using a regular computer and is fairly fast for a wireless device. I have had great luck with having cell service in many places where Sprint failed completely. AT&T service reps are a pleasure to talk to being honest, speaking fluent English, and very informative. Love almost everything about it. Videos are clear and load quickly whereas on the Instinct you cant see anything and that's if it even loads in the first place.
CONS: There are very few. I have noticed a little bit of hissing during calls that ranges from not so bad to a little annoying. And lastly, the auto correct sometimes catches me off guard especially in SMS mode.
Overall I have to say that Apple set the bar pretty high even with the original iPhone. Instinct failed miserably and most reviews I've read of other touch phones nothing has even come close.
I highly recommend the iPhone. I am hooked and am proud to no be an AT&T customer.
Better stick with an Ipod Touch
Don't get me wrong, the iphone is a very cool multimedia device. I was amazed at how far short this phone fell from all the hype and crazed apple fans all over the world. First of all, a phone is only as good as the network that supports it.
This phone drops calls like crazy, 15 the first day i used it. It took forever to activate so I was without a phone for several hours, not good. The battery is rediculous, it dies after a few hours of minimal phone calls and texts. What amazes me is that ATT advertises the largest and fastest 3G network, but I did some research and they only cover 40% of the U.S population with their 3G, compared to 90% with Verizon's. Fast? give me a break, the software that can be downloaded will only cause the phone to crash and reset itself.
and what's even more revolting is that ATT won't insure their phone!! I mean nobody wants to break their phone, but if an unfortunate situation happens and the phone gets dropped I think people should at least have the option to pay a monthly fee to have the phone insured. Not many people have an extra 500 bucks laying around in case their phone breaks. Not to mention that if the phone is defective then ATT in most cases won't replace it or fix it for you, they instead ship the phone out back to Apple and it could take weeks for you to get it back.
The touchscreen is amazing don't get me wrong, but this is a phone we are talking about, that should be it's primary function. Overall I am stunned by how lousy this phone is. I am paying the termination fee and getting the Dare.
If you want a cool interactive device then get an Ipod Touch, if you want a reliable phone that is worth the money DO NOT get the iphone.

Largest Time Waster of All Time
I waited a while before posting my review to give Apple and AT&T a chance to correct the unusually unstable nature of the iPhone 3G. After two "upgrades" I can say that the iPhone 3G is a mobile phone. I cannot say that it is a "smart" phone. It received a 2 in my rating because it makes and receives telephone calls. Now I'll focus on the most frustrating aspect of iPhone 3G ownership. I wastes you time! I bought my 3G on the first day (waiting 7 hours from the wee hours to about 10 am.) I was immediately greeted with the first waste of my time. I couldn't register. I tapped away repeatedly at iTunes until I could (3 hours later.) I was satisfied that once registered on the AT&T network, all would be right with the universe. I was wrong. The iPhone 3G software is not robust. Any changes to the AppStore apps can take the entire phone, all the apps, of a combination of phone/app usability down to an unacceptable level. After each Apple software upgrade I was sure that this would be corrected. I was wrong. After spending 8 hours upgrading to version 2.0.2 I was certain that all was right with the solar system. Little did I know that by upgrading two of my apps to the most current version, I would render all of my apps unusable. This is where I am now. I am looking at at least six hours of restoration (syncing of apps is painfully slow) before finding out whether my iPhone will even be able to run any of my multiple paid apps; and then I must hope that none are upgraded at the time I finish or else...
iPhone Re-Think
I will start with saying that I am glad I did not purchase the first Generation at full price.
Pros:
It is a Beautiful Device.
OS X Functionality.
Very Simple Interface. Extremely Intuitive.
Best Screen I have ever seen on a phone.
Ability to turn of 3G to conserve battery life.
Cons:
I absolutely hate the fact that ATT / Apple mandates a $30 Data Plan especially on a device that has WiFi.
Fairly buggy. (Even after 2.0.1 firmware upgrade).
BS GPS.
2MP Camera with No Video.
No Adobe Flash Support.
Can't play .wmv files. (If it can, I have not figured it out yet).
No Stereo Bluetooth.
Signal Strength.
Battery Life. (To be expected in a device such as this BUT, My Motorola Q9h standard battery life is far superior).
Although you can Jailbreak and unlock the device, the feeling of control Apple and ATT exert bothers me.
The experience has been good so far but I am already finding myself becoming frustrated with this device. I am not a big fan of Windows Mobile OS but, there is so much more available for it. I still have 18 of the 30 day trial so hopefuly It gets better.
ATT is due to get Samsung's Omnia which I have seen. It is windows based but definitely not as pretty as the iPhone. Like the iPhone, it is kooool to use but it, unlike the iphone, comes loaded with everything one would think the iPhone should have standard.
