Motorola V710
Average Ratings
Underrated Phone
Remember first and foremost you have the phone to speak and this phone has excellent signals. Especially compared to any GSM network in the US and Ive used them all. Reception is great everywhere I go.
Second- BLuetooth is Crippled but not totally. It can be used as a modem. And besides the crippled BT was well documented before release.
Finally, the phone has great construction, good displays and good keys. All the complaints Ive been reading have all been the same complaints about almost every phone. Hell, my LCD TV is poor in direct sunlight.
Overall it happens to be an excellent phone. Go get Cingular and use your blue tooth and never find a signal to make your call.
In other words "Can you hear me?...good"
The V710 is a "FAIR" phone... BUT...
PROs:
Great internal display
Very good Reception
Very good Speakerphone
Expandable memory
MP3 Ringtones
Voice âNameâ and âDigitâ dialing
Fair battery life (for 800mah)
CONs:
* External Display is all but useless
* Both displays, useless in sunlight
* Keypad has gloss finish, causing glare
* Keypad has a terrible backlight system
* Keypad has no tactile feedback
* Keypad has cheap look and feel
* Earpiece requires careful placement over ear canal (or ear lobes block output, and volume drops considerably)
* The navigation & menus are very âold-schoolâ
* Camera indoors = laughable (you are better off with a crayon and birch bark)
* Camera âFlashâ is just a light that is useless
* Camera âZoomâ is useless, as it is just digital
* Camera outdoors still takes laughable pictures (the camera's optics are very bad)
* Bluetooth implementation is all but useless (I prefer my wired âEarwaveâ headset, it doesnât need charging)
* The image based Caller-ID on the external display is useless, too small and low-res
* The available backgrounds on the external display make it even harder to read
* The expandable memory is all but useless because nobody is going to consider this phone as a viable âcamera solutionâ, for any use, and it does not have a stereo MP3 playing capability, so what would you need up to 128 Megs of storage for?
* The Speakerphone function is promoted as âfull-duplexâ, it is definitely not. It is a half-duplex speakerphone with the remote party having full priority.
Also the phoneâs software was not ready for prime time, there are several repeatable ways to cause the phone to âlock-upâ, requiring a battery removal to reboot.
Iâm sure this phone will please many people, but for me it is âno big dealâ. I will be returning this phone, I will go back to my old T720, and await the LG-V8000, or the Motorola V260 (which has everything I really need).
After all of the âhypeâ about this phone, I was very disappointed.
a great cell
I have owned this cell since it has come out. 8/11/04. I have had NO problems what so ever and it has worked out great for me. I don't really use the cam/vid option as much but when I do am impressed with the quality. Remember this is a cell phone. I use the Jabra 250 with it and they pair nicely. Sound is clear and the screen is great! I've downloaded some ringers/wallpapers and they work fine. the phone has been working like its supposed to. For what I need it for this is probably the best phone Verizon has to offer at this time. A lot of people (maybe a few people pretending to be a lot of people) have complained about this cell and have some kind of grudge against the model and the people that like the phone. Don't believe the lies and exagerations. Some negative reviews have valid points but the majority i've read are rubbish. Try it for yourself for 15 days. If it doesn't suit your needs return it, very simple. Some people just have an agenda with trying to sway everyone from this phone. Whatever. The phone works fine for me! Great color, great cam/vid, great layout, great odds and ends to play with, great reception, sound, clarity, etc...
V710 The Best Phone IN Years; for pros only!
If you are a phone or tech pro, this phone is for you! If you like user friendly menus and lots of fluff, buy an LG. If you want a powerful communication tool that can do almost anything you want, buy the Motorola V710! I have used cell phones sense 1990, Moto was the king for years, but that have waivered in the past. I have used Samsung, LG, and Nokia trying to fill the Moto void. Many of these phones were good, but none were great, at least not to me.
I can not explain the joy I now have because Moto is back in the game! The V710 is a BIG WINNER! However, if you don't want to take the time to make this phone "yours" by customizing it all the way, you may not enjoy it. This phone can do it all, but you may have to change many of the factory defaults to get it. There are a lot of "tricks" that LG and Samsung users will not find unless they spend a lot of time looking.
Like I said, this phone is for PROS ONLY!
Pros:
- Bluetoothe headset and speaker are awesome (I am sure Verizon had a reason the restrict the Bluetoothe (not cripple))
- Display is large, bright and colorful
- Volume is LOUD, on ear peice, ringers and speaker phone
- Reception is very strong (as good or better than Samsung of last 2 years)
- Battery is strong, I talk a lot
- Phone-book works great, however it does take some time to customize
Cons:
-still working on those...
I don't have much input on the camera. Did not buy the phone for that. However, the few pics I have taken came out very nice, for a phone that is. The movie snips seem cool too!
If you can't tell... I believe Motorola hit a home run with the V710!!!
Great Phone
This is A great phone. Sound quality is very clear and the reception is great. I had 1 to no bars and the phone was crystal clear very little breaking up. Battery life has yet to be established, but so far seems very good. The volumes are good and loud. And for the first time you can add ringtones, and pictures free with optional memory card and reader. There are some minor glitches in the software that will be fixed by future software updates.
Pros:
- Speaker phone
- bluetooth
- large,sharp, and vibrant display(inside and out)
- MP3 player(large array of bitrates supported)
- Obey my moto(voice commands)
- expandable memory
- Great reception
- technical info about current network
- ability to use camera light as flashlight
- sleek stylish, contemporary look
- acceptable camera for a phone
- Compatible with most older mororola accessories and chargers.
Cons:
None for me
Homerun
I don't know why everyone is so negative. I don't like the fact that Bluetooth is disabled either, but there are so many other great features I can hardly believe it. The way to get around paying for pictures is to buy the trans flash 128 memory card from sandisk. Not only can you store your pictures but you can store your MP3s too. It only gets better. After you store your mp3 on the memory card, just make any song in the world your ringer. It sounds great. It isn't some midi form of the song. It is the real song. The camera is ok in regular light, but it is exceptional in a high light sitiuation(ie outside, sunny conditions). The screen is huge! It has a lot of cool wallpapers and some great features. I wish it was easier to get to the speaker phone. When I was ready to get my phone, I read many reviews that said the volume was bad in the ear piece. I can't believe how clear the sound is and how loud. You can actually hear yourself talk in the earpiece which actually gives you a headphone effect. I have had the phone for about a month and am very pleased. I got mine free after rebates from cellularchoices.net. Good luck and rock on with the coolest phone I have ever seen.
Good phone
Pros:
-Great Reception
-Classy Design
-Camera (not bad for a phone)
-Menu speed
-Mp3 playback and ring tones
-SEND and END keys are in the 'right' position
-Big outer display
-Great main screen (you can notice the 262K)
-Predictive text
Cons:
-Keys feel cheap, but doesn't all plastic?
-Learning curve coming from using Nokia for years
Overall, this phone suits me perfectly. I am a moderate to heavy user and this phone is yet to let me down. Please take note, I don't travel into rural areas.
V710 not the best by far
Great idea but not enough time to engineer it properly in my opinion. This phone could have been the best but once again, Motorola has put out a phone with numerous software issues. I have lived in the same area for over 5 years now and owned 5 different VZW phones in that time. This one ranks highest for features but thats about it. We all need to remember what it is that we do with our phones, we talk! I'll put my old V60c (which by the way needed several software updates from Motorola) against any new phone out there for reception. If you are a technut and just care about features then get a 710 but don't expect flawless operation as the camera seriously sucks and lots of other features lockup your phone not to mention don't rely on it for good reception consistently. Overall I would say stay away unless you have money to burn as this phone is priced way to high for its performance!
Are we talking about the same phone here?
I purchased the Moto V710 today and I must admit I was very surprised with this phone. I have stayed away from it due to the bad reviews but must say I have been completely surprised by this phone, first of all the screen is great, Great sound quality, Love the speed, its very fast switching screens. Camera works very well although no camera has printable quality. I just hope others try this phone, I have purchased other phones from Verizon and must admit most are crap but Verizon still has the best coverage even though there customer service at stores is less then to be desired . Again I was surprised by the negative reviews this phone has received. So far its a great little phone. The ONLY thing that would have been better is if the handset was able to sync all your pix to your computer but then again Verizon wants the Pix money.
Good Phone -- Now that Verizon has dropped the price
Good Phone -- Just Don't Pay too much for it.
Most of the features of this phone seem to be marketed towards a teenage user rather than a power-user. I've recently upgraded from the T720i and have no regrets.
The phone is not worth the $400 Motorola price, but is a good value at the $149 Verizon price.
After working with the voice commands, I'm finding them invalueable while driving with a headset. The signal quality and voice quality are great. The speaker phone is no better or worse than any others on the market.
The address book, while tedious to set up by hand, is a great improvement over previous models. The voice dialing will also allow me to select whether I'd like to call the person's Home, Mobile, Office, or Other listed number. Great feature. I haven't enabled the pictues in the address book as I like the list format. The picture feature works great on the phones I've seen it used on.
I don't use the camera much, or the streaming video feature. The picture quality is just as fuzzy as any other camera phone I've used. They all have poor quality. And......It's a shame that Verizon needs to profit off of each picture and each video sent.
I was able to get my HP IPAQ 4355 to communicate with the phone in about 5 minutes. The IPAQ can use the phone to dial into an ISP so I can check email when now 802.11 services are available.
Battery life on the phone is the same as just about any other phone. I use it all day and charge at night. I'd get the extended battery if you're a heavy user.
