MY Q GOING BACK - ITS A JOKE!!!!

Jun 6, 2006 by benz500

What a piece of crap! The battery is useless. Only 4 hours of usage then it is dead. Treo 650 - 4 times that amount without re-charging.

Contacts - Motorola you really suck here!! You cannot arrange the contacts by category. You have to scroll through all of them. In my case thats over 1300 contacts! What a Joke!!

3rd Party Software Availability - HELLO???? Virtually nothing out there compared to the Treo!!

I've bought many Motorola products over the years. I currently have 2 razors and a Motorola phone installed in both Mercedes which all do the job just fine.

Motorola and Verizon missed a huge opportunity for the heavy business users like myself. I'm sticking with the Treo's as will my 100+ sales rep's I have working for me.

Q- almost perfect

Jul 6, 2006 by tokyogt7

The q was an excellent phone.... not so many accessories yet but they're getting there. When turning it off and back on, the waiting time isn't that bad but it takes a quarter of your battery away each time. So make sure u don't turn it off and on after its done charging if ur going on a business trip.

pros-
sleek design
GREAT phone
full QWERTY keyboard(easy to type on)
comes with memory
ability to add more memory for cheap
dedicated buttons at bottom of keyboard
(messaging, camera, speaker)

cons-
turning on takes a quarter of the battery away

no other big cons, just little ones that depend on your preferences and your idea of a con

i give this phone and 80/100

good idea, easy to get around in

makes u forget theres no touch screen

very good for its money

Slimmer, heavier, slower. The new Motorola Qrapâ„¢

Nov 22, 2007 by Scared Of Clowns

I don't mind my Q. It's a nice cellphone. It's so thin! But it's HEAVY! It's kind of heavy and its kind of nice, but not really.

Pros:

It's slim!
EvDO
cute looking
3rd Party apps work great

Cons:
Speakerphone is terrible
Drops calls
Keyboard is craptastic
It's on TELUS...
WM5 is unspeakably TERRIBLE. I don't think I've ever seen slower or uglier software ever.

I want an iPhone. I want Rogers. I wish I could start all over again with cellphones.

AKWARDLY HUGE!!!

May 31, 2006 by zschaefer

I have been waiting for this phone to come out for forever, it came out today. I am college student and i work for a cell phone store, i was looking forward to getting this as fast as possible. i know a verizon rep that already has one, so i played with it a little bit, and it does have some pretty nice features.. BUT.....I CAN'T GET OVER HOW HUGE IT IS! it's thin, but so wide that you would have to be shaq for it comfortably fit in your hand. the wheel operation sucks! and i love the blackberry wheel operation, i hate touchscreen phones, but this wheel is difficult. i was going to switch from my e815 to the Q, but after much research and finally playing with it, i bought the bb 7130e and am much happier with it.

Run For Your Life

Worst phone I've ever owned. I got my first Q 6 months ago and have had to have it replaced twice. I'm currently on my third and it too is now being replaced. My first locked up on the logo and they couldn't fix it. The second had corrupted memory problems. The third randomly shuts itself off and can only restart with a soft reset (about 6-7 times a day). About once a week I have to do a hard reset and completely start over.

Pros: Verizon reception great. Easy to use, easy to learn, easy to sync.

Cons: Everything else. And I mean everything!!!!! Verizon's willingness to work with me and get me into a different model, not so great.

Moto Q review

The phone is okay at the present time but with a software update it will be the best mobile device in the world!

Q-Hated it.

Jun 7, 2006 by emtwex

I picked up the Moto Q Monday afternoon and returned it mon night. I'm a former BB7250 user, and now using an LG8100 because I no longer had a need for wireless email and hated using the BB as a phone. The Q OS is the worst, slow to respond, and not easy to navigate. It was missing some simple but important features for me.

1) No get it now
2) Alarm clock had no option for M-Fri only or certain days only
3) Editing contacts was difficult

I found the whole OS just the worst!

After about 18 Hours, it's going back

The phone is very nice, the screen is perfect, and the keys are what you would expect for a device of this size. The coverage while using the phone was only so-so, and the data kept disconnecting due to lack of service. The phone is a bit wide, very thin, and seems a bit awkward. Having been a nextel customer for the last 5 years, I have grown accustomed to limitations. but I got the Q because it supports Bluetooth DUN, and thats what I wanted. First Verizon told me at this time, THEY dont support DUN on the Q, and when they will (and they will at some point) it will be an additional $60 per month! Even though my plan has UNLIMITED data. I guess the word unlimited has its limits with verizon. The voice quality was only so so, I tried to set up my voice mail and my own voice recording was almost un-intelligible, so there goes Americas best wireless network. A nice phone, and if they had an Iden version I would probably get it, but not worth changing networks for, especially when you consider that you cant use it as a modem, and when you can, it's gonna cost you!

Good... But not Great

This smartphone is a great, media-based cell phone that serves as a PDA. I would recommend this smartphone to anyone who is a first time PDA user. I have carried the Treo 700p and the Blackberry 8703e and I enjoyed the Motorola Q much better. The Treo 700p did not fit my media expectations and the Blackberry 8703e did not come with a camera, but the Q had the qualities I was looking for.

PROs
-Windows Mobile Software (easy to use).
-1.3 Megapixel Camera/ Video recorder.
-Windows Media Player for music and video.
-MiniSD card slot for expanded memory.
-QWERTY keypad for fast replies.
-Can customize the Home Screen.
-Can apply Mp3 Ringtones.
-Real Internet Web Browsing, not WAP.
-User can Tether the phone as a Modem.
-Large Display Screen with vivid picture.
-Add personal applications.
-Detailed Address and Contact Information.
-Personal Organizer.
-Email Ready.
-Very Fast Web Browsing.
-Thumbwheel is very nice.
-Bluetooth capable.

CONs
-Batter Life is very poor.
-Software tends to respond slowly at times.
-QWERTY keypad is not comfortable.
-Data Access is reliable, but Expensive.
-Speakerphone was not as loud as I expected.
-Phone didn't ring loud enough for me.
-Vibrate was poor.

The Motorola Q was a very fun phone to use, but making and receiving calls became a problem when I could not hear the phone ring at times and some callers would say they could not hear me when I had them on speakerphone. When I wasn't on speakerphone the call clarity was fine.

6+ Month Review

First off: I rarely rattle off negative stuff as a means for venting frustration, so please accept my input as honest with no exhaggeration.

I rec'd this phone within the first week of its debut and it works wonderfully as a phone (reception, voice quality, etc). The downside is the horrible reliability with operation/connecting and the constant attention this phone needs to keep it going. Specifically, it "locks up" at least once per week (sometimes more often, sometimes not at all) and will not respond to key commands or answer calls. I get internet connectivity about every other day, thus leaving me unable to rely on this device to keep me connected to email. The worst incident was ending a call, witnessing the "home screen" and discovering the phone was still connected to the call, but otherwise appeared to be idle. I had to remove the battery to end the call.

My take? Verizon had exclusive rights to the Q and probably forced Moto's hand at releasing by a certain date, irregardless of what bugs remained in the design. When complaining to Verizon, I got the "well, the phone is new and needs a bios upgrade". Crap, crap. I'm stuck with the $200 purchase and cannot afford the downtime required to send it off.

Other than the faulty stuff, the phone does suck at being a PDA because it's not very intuitive. It's very quirky.
