Average Ratings
I had this phone till the day it got soaked during a storm.
I was a bit upset that my friends phone lasted through the same incident yet hers had more water in it. Then again her battery was actually attached to the phone instead of inserted. This phone had just about everything you could want even though the front display is small and the reception wasn't as good as others I've had since then.
Speaker phone, camera, user-friendly, VERY customizable, video recording, it's BLUE!, blue tooth technology - also customizable - can name your headset and such.
There are other cons besides the things I listed in the very beginning..But, overall, I liked it quite a bit.
WARNING: If it gets wet, a small circle located behind the battery will turn bright red.
V551
Phone works great even though it was drowned in a river and later resuscitated!!
Before resuscitation
Pros
Screen is beautifully clear except in direct sunlight
Easy to hold
Comfortable to hold
Outside Display lights up with time
Cons before resuscitation
Speaker phone not clear, Hard to understand
Camera is not the best in the world but it is a phone, not a camera
Drops calls easily
Menus are difficult to figure out
No easy way to access web
Decent Phone, nothing spectacular
This phone is a bit above average to me. I had a v220 but did not care for the looks of it. I gave that to my sister and replaced it with the v551. I chose the phone because of the negative LCD display, giving it a different look over the other phones available in that price range.
Pros:
I like the looks-
Navy blue shell with metallic accents
Blue on blue negative LCD external display
Better internal screen display
The keypad has a great bright white backlight
Cons:
A bit bulky for a flip phone
Horrible vibe option, not very strong
Phone's software got messed up after a month, received a refurbished phone
The hinges for the flip seemed flimsy
overall it was a decent phone with a sturdy build, except around the hinges. It worked for me and I enjoyed the display/color scheme on it. Wouldn't recommend spending too much on it though
Motorola V551: Best phone I have owned to date.
I am not sure why I have read of so many people having problems with this particular phone. I personally have enjoyed the features as well as the durability of this particular phone. The Bluetooth is an awesome way to transfer files back and forth with no air time cost (my wife has the black Razr V3 with Bluetooth and the transfer progress between the 2 phones are just amazing). The full color internal display is amazingly vibrant. The camera is a nice feature, but like any other phone, it takes up battery life and memory, and the same goes for the video camera. I have used both since my kids are into skateboarding and they work pretty well for a phone camera/video recorder. Battery life is something everyone should really figure out. Too many complain of short battery life. How often do you use your cameras or the internet? Bluetooth being on constantly will also burn up battery life at a quick pace.
Pros:
*Video / Camera phone rocks (Even the RAZR V3 doesn't have the capability to capture video, only play it)
*Awsome Internal Display
*4.23 oz of solid phone
*Bluetooth file transfer (if you would like to know how to use the file transfer, contact me at the email listed in my personal information)
*Always have a strong signal
*~4.5 days of battery life (Under heavy usage)
Cons:
*Color external display would have been nice, but not necessary for the phone to function.
*No games included with the phone upon purchase.
*Owners manual sucks. Lacks any useful information required to understand and utilize any and all phone features.
Overall, this phone rocks! I would recommend this phone to anyone who has never owned a Motorola and wants a good qulaity, durable phone.
only have it for a week...
just switched from verizon to tmobile due to lack of service in my area, verizon let me out of my contract for free because i moved to a completley dead service area. i decided to try tmobile. i got the v330 for free while they had a two day special on it. i wsa hesitiant because i absolutley hated my T730, but i figured its a $150 phone for free, what have i got to loose? i LOVE this phone, its so wonderful. the speakerphone is crystal clear and i love its design. my only gripe was the lack of a color external screen, buts its really not that big of a deal.
Could be worse, needs to be better.
Pros:
-Looks nice
-Bluetooth
-Mobile Phone Tools is great if you get it (not free, not included)
-Ringer volume is good, but speaker is easily muffled because of location.
-Nice internal screen.
-Send and End on the usual sides of the phone rather than the usual Motorola backwards placement.
Neutral:
-Battery Life. I've had better and worse.
-External screen. The Blue and white is cool, but color screen would have been better.
Cons:
-Drops a lot of calls compared to previous phones in same area.
-My firmware locks up every 3 days.
-No Vibe and Ring option out of the box (only vibe then ring)
-TERRIBLE earpiece volume
-TERRIBLE mic volume according to everyone I talk to (as they're hearing the mic volume)
-Bluetooth is touchy
-Vibe is bad. Half the time, I don't even notice it.
Verdict: I wouldn't get this phone again, given the option. I am now replacing it after 10 -11 months of use.
Motorola v330
Okay first off I have to start out by saying that I really didn't want to go back to using a Motorola phone as the first one I owned was the v300 and had to do 3 exchanges in 90 days on it due to the same bug. That was replaced by a Samsung e-315 which I loved. After that broke I got a Nokia 3220 which is another great phone all on it's own. Now back to the v330.
Definately a great phone and was definately worth the price of free considering the T-Mobile website was offering it for free.
This phone definately makes me rethink owning Motorola phones. They did a great job with it.
Pros:
Great screen deatil
Bluetooth
EDGE
Call quality and clarity
Decent picture quality after all it is a cellphone
And many many more.
Cons:
Some of the keys get in the way of other functions. Namely the t-zones and camera keys.
Lack of games available
The keypad doesn't flow right when typing text messages.
Overall a great phone, and if I would have had to buy it I would have. Thank goodness for friends at the local corporate retail store giving me the web only deal. This is a great phone for the price with some features of higher end more expensive phones. Just glad that it seems the bugs have been worked out from the v300. Just waiting to get my hands on a Bluetooth headset so I can really try it out.
Solid phone for the money!!!
The V551 had some battery problems when it first came out, but it looks like Motorola has got the battery problem under control. Or at least it looks like the new ones are doing better with batteries.
Pro- Well made phone (solid construction), easy to use, and good Bluetooth phone for the money.
Con- Some complaints about battery life.
Moto V551
Just got two of these phones and they are much better than the Nokia 3595 we had. The keys on the Nokia are hard to control. We just got tired of the phones.
Moto V551:
Pro:
* Keys are easy to control
* Display is bright enough
* Camera is OK, even has zoom
* Speakerphone is loud
* Nice, attractive design
Con:
* Keys on sides of phone are annoying
* Phone volume is far too low even on "7" the loudest setting
* Manual is almost worthless unless you don't need a manual to figure things out
* Connection seems "fuzzy" to me
* Voice recorder is slow to train
* Have to purchase software and cable to fully utilize phone
* Ring tones are for kids, not for professionals
V551 vs V300
I just upgraded my phone from the V300 to the V551. So far I think the phone is pretty great, I like the design A LOT more then the V300 it's much nicer.
Data Transfer & Screen Quality:
Although I have not attempted to use the Bluetooth I was able to load all my V300 photo's to my new V551 with the data cable & the Motorola "mobile phone tools" & I have noticed that the screen quality on the V300 is MUCH clearer then the V551. I've changed the settings to "match" between the phones and the V551 has somewhat of a "greenish" tint to the coloured screen.
Spearkerphone:
I enjoy that the new V551 allows me to dial someone & immediately put the call on speakerphone (which the V300 did not-it made you connect the call then it would give the option for the speaker).
MP3 Ringtones:
At first I was amused with the MP3ringtones on the V551 (You can make your own with the mobile phone tools program & save TONS of downloading fees) but something that was upsetting is the V551 only has about 10hard installed ringtones (I guess this is to leave room for us consumers to download & save files) but I miss all the V300ringtones b/c I had them all assigned to different callers. Im not interested in downloading ALL mp3 ringtones to use on my phone, I enjoyed the standard ones too.
Camera:
If you have a steady hand it works fine for a video capture considering it's a PHONE :). But I'm disapointed in the CAMERA, once again the V300 camera quality is MUCH nicer, it's clearer & brighter.
I tested the V551 camera a few times & the photo's all come out low quality & a little blurry. My V300 had a FANTASTIC camera.
Sound Quality:
The sound in the V551 is a little "echo-ish" if it's on # 7 it sounds as if people are shouting at you. I found #6 to be a good level.
Overall I suggest to anyone who doesn't need the Video & Bluetooth technology & doesn't want to waste time/money on downloading ringtones to stick with the V300.
