Well to start out this phone is not bad but it has some features that see missing.. Here are some pros and cons about it.

Pros:
* the music player is good quality and easy sync.
* its slim and slender
* the external touch screen controls work pretty good.
* the signal reception is so far the best ive seen and ive bought many phones. Always have. About 3 bars.

Cons:
* Its slim and sleek but its too long. I have to text with it using 2 hands.
* the sound quality is great if you were in a library haha but if your outside or somewhere "loud" you can't hear anything
* the screen attracts fingerprints to easily we cleaning them all the time can make you really mad.

overall its not a bad phone to begin with.

Dissapointment

Apr 6, 2008 by ralph0722

Being a Motorola fan for years, to me is inexcusable this phone. Ive tried to like the new Linux but is terrible. For starters my previous V3i D&G was very customizable. Left and Right keys were changeable. Was lighter and the UI faster than the V8. This new UI is slowwwww and lags. The phone is beautiful. Until you touch it and gets all dirty. Impossible to keep clean. Battery is abysmal compared to my V3i.

Pros:
-Beautiful Mercedez Benz's looks and feel.
-I like the size. Big and heavy. Feel's good in you're hand. i hate small phone's.
-Good camera.
-Attention grabber

Cons:
-Battery Life is horrible.
-Gets dirty in seconds.
-Slow UI, unnecessarily complicated, poor customization.
-Poor stock ring tones and wallpapers (at this price range)
-Speaker phone doesn't work with phone closed
-Keypad is flat, cant text or dial w/o looking.
-Items and menus are located in the least expected places, like ring tone and volume selectors.
-Alarm clock isn't as good as my V3i. This V8 would cancel alarm if u touch side keys trying to snooze it, my v3i had to open phone and cancel it. I woke up late to work because of this.
-Games sucked.
-Boring menu layout.
-Price

Verdict:
-The phone is so beautiful. I really want to like it. But is so unfriendly. Menu layout is terrible. Things not where there supposed to be. Battery is awful. Lack of items, ring tones, wallpapers and customization is unacceptable at this price range. I gave it a 2 because of the looks. No wonder Motorola wants to get rid of their handset division.

Delightful (And Different)

I think this is one of those "you get it...or you don't" phones. The operating system is unlike other Motorolas that appear to be similar, but it's every bit as fast with the menus as my Razr2 V9 and it's more easily customisable naturally. However, the operating system does *not* lend itself well to other than normal modifications because the operating system simply does not work the way that the Synergy-type systems of other Motos works.

It's slimmer than the V9 owing to the single quad GSM radio, but it's every bit as good (or better) with RF signal capture. It just works, almost regardless of the situation.

Mine is the "Luxury Edition"...seems silly but I just had to give it a try. Looks great, understated, elegant, and without being too glitzy.

Internal 2GB memory is perfect for most users. The menus are well thought out and seem to offer what most users would want in the way of customisations. Email client activated by default, and works quickly and well with GMail and AOL.

Crystal Talk works very well in almost all situations. Adequate volume, good speaker.

I have nothing bad to say! If you rely on a phone, this is a very good choice, even if it is a little too expensive for most people to consider.

A good phone that doesn't live up to its potential

The first thing you notice when you open the box is how stunningly beautiful the phone is in person. Then you open it up and realize how stunningly large the thing is. A lot of people complained about the chin on the original razr, but with it gone, the phone looks and feel a lot bigger. It really makes you wonder if there is anything special to thin phones when they just keep getting bigger in other directions.

Despite the size, the initial impression the phone gives is very positive. Solid construction, two beautiful displays, very good call quality and good reception.

After you use it for a while, there are some glaring annoyances that surface. For one, the phone gets really warm when heavily used, more so than any other phone I've owned. It felt like I had a hand warmer in my pocket while I was playing music. Another annoying thing is that despite the beauty of the external screen, its function is rather limited.

-If you want to read a new sms message, you must always unlock the external keys before it will let you view it, even if the message just came in.
-If you turn off the external key lock, the backlight will stay on, killing your battery.
-If you have more than one new message waiting, you can't read them on the external screen
-The touch keys are only used with the music player, which you can't start from the outside of the phone.
-Exterior screen shows all the normal icons of the main screen EXCEPT which profile you are using so you have to open the phone to make sure its on vibrate.

Another missing feature is the ability to ring and vibrate at the same time. For some reason, Moto decided to leave it out of this phone.

Why motorola chose not to include a microsd slot is beyond me. It makes zero sense when the v3i, V3m, K1, V9 and V9m all have it.

Despite its short comings, I still love the phone. It really is a shame the thing doesn't live up to its potential, it could have been the perfect phone.

Great phone. It luxury and simple at the same time. Feels great in the hand and is way better than sprints and verizons razor 2. The 2 gb internal if awsome. Holds 1000 songs and still has video room. I love this phone.

Horrible Phone

Nov 29, 2007 by Screamline458

I bought this phone less than a month ago and have already had to have a warranty replacement through T-Mobile. i have had the new one for two days and now will have to have yet another replacement. I am so glad that this phone was $300 and is a piece of crap.

Pros
- Very beautiful phone
- Sleek and thin
- big external

Cons
- slow UI
- connects to network horribly (receive multiple re-pete text messages and doesn't send always or receive any messages)
- ends calls
- music player freezes
- screens are glass which attracts lots of finger prints and smudges.

would have been a nice phone but a better phone to go with would be the normal razr since it has all bugs worked out or the new rizr since it is the same phone as the razr2

great phone

RAZR 2 V8

Sep 19, 2007 by MattWalsh

I have a HTC 8125 Smart Phone from Cingular. I purchased the V8 to put something INTO my pocket instead of on a belt. as I travel for pleasure all over the world frequently and well on the belt is FAR easier to steal .so the thinking behind the V8 (size) and in an Unlocked mode (local Sims card). I was NOT VERY SMART in realizing how hooked I was to the 8125 ease of use. I think that MOST people will/would love the V8 phone and all of the comments down below are accurate and true. . especially the build quality and the clarity of the incoming calls. . .MY COMMENTS are for those who own Touch Screen, Smartphone type of equipment such as the 8125.
First, know that I will be returning the V8 tomorrow because of the following:
1. no TOUCHSCREEN. (which I knew). .and if you have a slide out keyboard like mine . . well the text messaging will if you use it like I do, will drive you mad. far far slower than with the 8125. 2. the VOLUME on the V8 for all alerts/alarms is far less than my 8125 and well I am 49 years young and as a medical professional I know that I have . . as most men my age do have a hearing impediment that grows worse over time. I have tried various resident ring tones in an attempt to NOT sleep through any time that I have while I am not treating patients. . . .to NO avail. .although it does have a nice ramp up in volume. . .the speaker is on the bottom of the unit.
3. I have enjoyed the touch screen in my 8125 . . unwittingly. . to play solitaire. . to launch say Excel or Microsoft Word . . this DOES NOT HAPPEN on the V8. . sooo
4. With the unlocked unit. . .I am told by Tech Support today and by a Service Center at Cingular that they have no idea of how to program the phone with their carrier codes and passwords in order to access MMS, SMS, e mail type of data transmission/reception.
I hope this to help you think harder than i did before my purchase. Perhaps a private phone center could resolve this problem.
