Finally
I have been waiting for the perfect phone for a guy who works for a living I took an LG Incite back to get this thing the incite was cool but not real practical I work in a chemical plant and it is loud dusty wet and hard on everything this phone can take it no problem reception is A++++++++++ I can talk circles around my old pearl and my buddys Iphone the battery is great speaker is very loud (not sure about that other review he may have gotten 2 bad ones) talk outside around heavy equipment with no trouble the only con is the delay when making a call is a little longer than usual maybe its just getting warmed up to reach out farther than the competition!!!!
If you get your hands dirty this is the phone for you.
Took it back
I ported my number over to AT&T and wanted a rugged phone. The phone is operated in the SE Michigan area. I chose the Tundra by Motorola because it closely resembled my old nextel phone. Some of Motorola's flip phones can take a serious beating. I need this phone to be able to take just that as I work outside allot. I had this phone for just about a week and took it back to exchange it for another Tundra. I wanted to give Motorola the benefit of the doubt. While in a call, the volume just isn't very loud, even at the loudest setting (7). I verified this by asking my wife to try it as well as the salesman at the AT&T store. They both thought it was mediocre at best. I switched to another Tundra and tried it for a couple of days with the same problem. So, this way I know it's the phone and not me. Other than that, it's HUGE! If your getting mugged, just throw the phone at the bad guy and you might just knock em out. End result, the phone went back and I have chosen another brand/model. Motorola has a great idea here, take it back to the drawing board.
PRO'S:
Great construction, very rugged.
Battery life was great, one charge for four days and that included a couple of hours of talk time.
CONS:
HUGE!
Speaker while in a call is very quiet even at it's loudest setting. It's very hard to hear unless you have this thing pressed right up practically in your ear. (Verified and agreed with by salesman.)
Ringer volume is pretty quiet as well.
It's a Motorola
Well, it's a phone.
I think my expectations overshot reality when this phone came out.
And if your still under contract but still want this phone buy it from Motorola's web site, it's cheaper than buying it at an ATT store or their web site.
I give this phone a 4.5 because ATT really loaded it down with bloat-ware. The phone has locked up on me once just trying to turn it off.
And if you use speaker phone in a noisy environment use it with the flip closed, or else your caller will hear everything but you. Speaker phone must use the mic on the front? Also the battery cover is really tight make sure you press it down firmly all the way around. As for CrystalTalk 2, I haven't noticed any difference from the original CrystalTalk. But I do see LG & Samsung are following suit and coming out with their own noise cancellation for their phones.
At it's core the VA76r is a rugged ATT phone and it dose that well.
TUNDRA I'll take it back
Pros:
Excellent speakerphone
Good sound talking on hand set
Looks great feels solid
Nice size keypad ez to see
Cons:
Keypad response SLOW as far as going from one area to another, most transitions etc, like LAG on a computer
Using the Motorola H710 blue tooth 2.0 which worked fine on my Razr2 V9 but with the Tundra what I heard was awful and the folks I talked to said I sounded terrible as well
On a fully charged battery I got only 2 hr 34 mins talk time before seeing RED alert the phone died.
CNET review said:
âThe Tundra has a rated battery life of 5 hours talk time and 14 days standby time. We had a tested talk time of 4 hours and 16 minutes. According to FCC radiation tests, the Tundra has an rating of 1.36 watts per kilogramâÂ.
You can NOT cut/paste/copy text messages or phone numbers, thatâs unreal to me, who doesnât use that feature which is standard on most GOOD phones today?
You cannot make fonts larger and most of what I see is small, to small for my liking
I have been HAPPY with my Razr2 V9 and expected the Tundra to be as good/BETTER and as user friendly as the Razr2 V9 but it was FAR from it, it is as if MOTO should of stuck the Razr format, improved it maybe and built the Tundra around it.
I will return this phone ASAP.
I wanted to buy the newer version of my Razr2 V9, which is the Razr2 V9X, it came out 6 mo. ago sold out FAST, to bad for me.
Not loud enough
I'm do for an upgrade and had my heart set on the Motorola Tundra. I read a few reviews about how poor the sound quality is. I went to an ATT store to see for myself. The reviews were correct. I could barely hear the people I was calling. Turned up the volume to max. and moved the ear piece all around my ear and it did not help. This would have kept me with ATT. Now I'm looking to switch to Sprint and buy the Motorola Renegade. Sound good looks good and is as rugged.
