A Truely Smart Phone
I have been using the 7135 for a few weeks now and I can honestly say it is a "Smart " Phone.
Pros:
I am a larger form fact fan to begin with and I think this handset does quite a bit for its size. It has a real phone feel to it and is thin when opened up. The phone's voice answering setting also allow me to use my car kit or headset to answer the phone, while never having to take it off my belt. The memory card slot has to be one of its best selling features, definately separates this product from the current phones on the market. Also, I use a Kodak digital camera, which uses MMC or SD cards, like all Palms do and the 7135 does. I can "hot swap" cards and beam photos and use many other cool photo suite applications; even plays avi video. I also use Documents to Go and can carry Excel spreadsheets and other important documents in my phone. The phone came packaged with a "hot sync cradle" and belt clip. The graffiti pad is also a great feature if you text message or entering in personal info - no more T9! The other great thing about having this phone is the thousands of ways it occupies your time (like in the airport) checking email, stereo MP3s, and all those palm games.
Cons:
Blue-tooth technology would have been nice.
Maybe have phone backgrounds to chose from.
Overall very satisfied, saves me time and space. I wouldn't exactly call it a laptop, but it has saved me from carrying it around quite a bit.

Very nice phone and PDA combo. I work for Verizon and can say this is the best phone on the Verizon market. I had the previous version of this phone and can say this is much nicer. Don't know why they ever released the 6035! Only problem is that it does something called a fatal connection and then resets itself (NOT GOOD for a business person). I happen to have a laptop on me so I can just hotsync if that ever happens. Only once have I lost all info though. Speakerphone is loud and clear! The photosuite mobile is nice if you happen to have a scanner. This phone wows everyone I show it to. Some people think I'm talking on a calculator but then I show it to them and they say 'WOW!' Just that one problem otherwise it's GREAT!
7135 Great Tool
Had the 7135 for two weeks and have found it to be a great tool. Once upgraded to Palm 4.1, syncing to Palm Desktop was been clean and consistent. Have over 1,000 addresses and months of calendar data with up to 10 other corporate users names on the calendar. Phone functions are straight forward to use and look and feel of the device in the hand is great. Verizon network in New England has proven very reliable with this phone with the Tri-mode design I now get consistent signals in remote areas not capable with old Nokia/ATT phone. Couple problems to be careful of:
- Verizon switched out phone after three days, no questions asked when the battery was going in less than 24 hours. Second phone works better but depending on network area it appears to chew up battery faster than I expected. Get a car charger.
- Had a 'fatal exception" twice which lost all my address, calendar and preferences. Was able to re-sync with some additional effort on preferences. Kyocera has been very helpful on issues and says it was due to data corruption from my desktop address file.
Great Smartphone in a compact size. Belt clip is great for getting phone in and out fast.
Awesome Phone
I have had my phone for a little over a month now. It does everything I need it to. I love not carrying around 2 things.My palm pilot and phone. The only problem I can see is that the battery life is not the best. Customer service was great to. They help me solve a few issues I had right away. Thank you kyocera.
Alltel / Insurance / Product Guard
FYI...If you are paying for product guard / insurance on the Kyocera 7135 from Alltel you should immediately request a refund since the purchase date. The insurance will not pay for replacement/repair if the phone is lost/stolen/damaged/etc...This can be verified by contacting 800-255-8351 Alltel's Customer Service; most local offices are not aware of this policy.

Very Nice - not for the novice
This is an excellent PDA/ cell phone design when compared to existing makes/models. The only real improvements could be made to battery life. Fatal exceptions are also a little too common to make this a very reliable device.

Had Sprint:
Samsung I300
Samsung I330
wanted I500....but Sprint sucked in Key West so we changed to Verizon. Veriszon had the 7135...or the I700. I was in the mood for moving DOWN in size.....so I got the 7135.
It has been great for the past 3 months! I can't recall having to reset it unless it was after I downloaded new ringers I made.
I do think I have been getting better than reported battery life, I make sure to put it on the charger every night....something I didn't HAVE to worry about with my other SMART phones.
Size is good....NOT great. I had never even seen the I500 before I had to leave Sprint. When I did.....I was completely floored! While the size of the 7135 doesn't bother me....it could be smaller. NOT much....but a little. And if you say that the screen would be smaller, or that the I500 has no SD card capability......
The answer is my new phone (to arrive tomorrow). The Samsung I600 for Verizon. I will miss the graffiti area....but the other benefits far out-weigh that one thing.
The 7135 is a GREAT "mix" of phone and PDA. I will always be a "gadget person" and I probably go through 2-4 phones a year, so don't judge the 7135 by my actions....just my words. :)
I never missed my I300 when I upgraded to the I330. I rarely miss the I330. I will likely miss the 7135 as well.
the phone crashed and lost all my data
most of the features of the phone work well but there are two key faults that enable it disfunctional.
In my first week of usage on a business trip it crashed and i lost ALL OF MY INFO. including address book, calendar, email setup, browser bookmarks...
It had crashed other times but i hadnt lost my info. this time i did.
This key fault is a dealbreaker. I was on a business trip and this leaves me without critical info until i get back to the office.
Clearly this phone has not been thoroughly tested.
One of these days someone will make a smartphone that is functional, intuitive with a battery that lasts a reasonable amount of time.
The battery on light usage lasted about for about 20 minutes of talk time with about 1 hour of wireless data access- clearly not acceptable.
Kyocera 7135
Just got the phone this week, 4/8/03. So far so good, feature rich phone and PDA. Think Kyocera missed the boat in two respects, the screen is bright with 65,000 colors, but is limited due to 160X160 resolution. Leaves text, icons and pictures very grainy. Other non PDA phones with smaller screens are using 320X240. Also based on the size of the top of the phone, seems they could have made the screen taller in size. Also the phone pad on the bottom, is right on the bottom, makes it difficult to hold in one hand and dial with thumb. Phone tends to slip out of hand.
Have been looking forward to receiving this product for sometime. Will put it through its paces in the next 2 weeks, to determine if I want to keep it our return it and cancel service with Verizon. For the price, want to make sure I'm happy with it. If not will wait for next similar product from another manufacturer or next generation of this product.
REALLY BAD PHONE
LOCKS UP CONSTANTLY ERASES ALL FILES ON A REGULAR BASIS WILL NOT SWITCH BETWEEN ANALOG AND DIGITAL WILL NOT COMPLETE CALLS WAY TO SLOW TO DOWNLOAD MPG3'S SPEAKER PHONE SOUNDS CRAPPY ON TOP OF ALL THIS VERIZON'S SERVICE IS TEN TIMES WORSE THAN AT&T'S AND TO THINK I LEFT BELIEVEING THEY HAD THE LARGER BETTER NETWORK THEY SUCK. WHEN MY YEAR IS UP I WILL SWITCH TO ANYBODY BUT VERIZON AND GET A NEW PHONE
