SANYO5150- STAY AWAY FROM IT!!!
This phone has caused me nothing but headache from the time I purchased it (5/2002). I have been sent 3 new 5150's from Sprint and each one has had the same problem- I cannot receive or place calls after just a couple weeks of use. It tells me it can't find a signal even though my signal indicator is at full strength. It consistently drops calls if I am able to make a call out. To top all of this off, I was in emergency- actually caught in rising flood water and this phone couldn't even make a 911 call on either digital or analog networks. TERRIBLE PHONE- I can go on, quiet ringer, a joke for a game (if that is your interest), and weak software for computer sync. It was my mistake to buy Sprint's first color phone, wait for the any of the Samsung models or perhaps the Sanyo 5300 or 8100!
The best of the old and the new.
After a year and a half away from Sprint, I decided to give it one more try. I always liked the design of the 5150, but wondered what it's signal would be like. I must say that I am impressed! Whereas a year ago, I could not get a signal in my house, now I can talk for hours! The screen on this phone is awesome! It has that xenon pale white look to it, that the new 3G phones don't have. The menu is great, and the downloads are cool! The only shortcoming is the earpiece volume, which could be louder. In summation, this is probably Sprint's best phone, and with the price drop, and the release of the 3G 5300, I would grab one while you still can.
An improvement on an already great phone
This phone is too cool!! It is a modification of the 5000, which is awesome!! Full color display, downloadable ringer and screensaver, sleek,and loaded with features. The battery life on it leaves something to be desired, but other than that, it's definately a must buy!!
Signal Strength+options+design
Am now settling for the Sanyo 4900 untill they fix the 5150 ear volumn. Have owned 3 Sanyos, 3 Samsungs, 1 PrintPCS, mostly in the past 3 months. I am convienced that between the 3 manufactures Sanyo has the best signal strength (4/5 bars) and Samsung the worst (1/2 bars). This is important to me since I must be able to receive and hold calls regardless of location. However, I must admit Samsung has the nicest designs of all manufactures.
Selection of phone depending on needs. If communication is not very important, Samsung will function as one of the best "gameboys" around. If the intended use of a mobile is necessary, select a Sanyo.
The 4900 gets a 4.5. Size keeps it from a rating of 5.0.
Sanyo 5150
I'm currently using new samsung a500 but i think sanyo is better in every way except for it's volume. The volume on the phone is so low, i can't hardly hear it on the highway nor when im asleep. If sanyo had louder volume and ringer, i would definately change it back, no doubt!!
Sanyo 5150 better than the new 3G phones
Sanyo 5150 is better than the new 3G phones. The new phones do not have anything differnt except that Sprint is not allowing 5150 to access Data. They turned off 5150's EIN for Data. Sprint is in bed with Samsung for the moment. However, with all that said this is still a 3g phone that could hold the techno nerds over for another year or another upgrade for the phone hits the market. Sprint thinks by Novemeber they would admit that this phone could allow data transmission so I think they would turn on full 3G data in November. Currently, they are trying to sell Samsung crappy phones more than 3G.
Back to the phone. I could do anything with this phone as any new 3G phone. I could email straight from the phonebook. Vibrate and rings at the same time. Plus, it the only 3G phone with a Standard ringer. If you need software for the 5150 just drop me a email. I have the Sync and Multimedia. vissionare@cox.net

Phone looks buts operates like Crap
I have had this phonea for about 4 months, and after the first month its performance went down hill. For one thing I will be talking to someone for under 15 min. and it will cut out on me, even the the reception indicator shows that it is a strong signal. Another reason is usually when I want to use the wireless web it says that there is no signal strengh. Plus I can't use it in my apartment while other friends with their phones chat away in there apartment. I am waiting to be able to try the SCHA500 and see if that has any better quality, though the phone I really want is made by Qualcom..the flip Palm enabled phone. There are other reasons why I don't care for this phone but there to many.
It Is not Reliable
Well here I am again, I kept the Sanyo 5150 for a week and had to bring it back, don't get me wrong I do love the new color technology it has and the wall papers, the menu and all but I really wanted a good Strong phone for Signal Purposes and it failed the test in my book, I wanted a phone that Looks good and one that does a good job receiving a good Signal Strength, but the Sanyo doesn't, I guess that is where the quote " I want my Cake and Eat it too" comes from. so I had my Pretty Cake, But could not Eat it. and if I am going to pay 300.00 for a phone I got to have it all. so I brought it back to Sprint and bought the Samsung A400, which is the one I had bought originally and took it back because I wanted the color and the toys, that the Sanyo had to offer, but I will say this, the Samsung might not have the Color for the A400 but it has the best Signal Strength I have had in any phone I in the past by Samsung, so they are stepping up what is really important, and that is the Reception of there phones, because I don't want to be in the middle of no where and cant get a signal, and have to switch to analog to get one. so my final choice is the Samsung A400 Which I just went back to Buy. sorry Sanyo, Step up to whats really important and that is the Signal Strength. Not just the Show Off.
